The buzz so far on Call of Duty: Black Ops is surprisingly strong. I didn't get around to playing Call of Duty: World at War, but I won't be missing out on Treyarch's return to the franchise. Following news that Black Ops pre-orders may be outpacing Modern Warfare 2's, a number of readers -- the very people who are helping determine these numbers -- chimed in about their thoughts on Black Ops so far. NetNapoleon wasn't as convinced about the game as some others.
This will be a wait and see for me. After being disappointed by the last couple of Call of Duty's made by Treyarch they will have to prove themselves before I lay down the $60 that could go to another good game.

I for one will be completely passing on this title all together. Everything I have seen for this game has just been a turn off for me. I'll give just a few examples. The E3 demo with the chopper looked like the chopper mission from BF:BC and that got boring after the first play through for me. Next is the use of over the top action sequences, don't get me wrong I love blowing stuff up as much as the next guy, but the over the top bits of MW2 single player ruined it for me. The cramming of as much action for the sake of having the most and biggest explosions made it too forced for me. I must say though the thing that really got me was that lame crossbow. When First Blood came out I had dreams of using an arrow to blow up a Hind, but when I saw that crossbow I couldn't help but just groan. I don't know if it's me becoming a snob as I get older, but what happened to FPS's striving to become more realistic? MW2 had a shelf life of 2 months for me, and I see the same for BO. My money will probably go towards MoH instead.

agree 100% with the initial comment. treyarch makes money on CoD games b.c infinity ward makes insanely good... well addicting games. this next CoD will be a wait and see for sure simply b.c treyarch is amateur

I definitely think that Black Ops is getting the benefit of the doubt because it has the name Call of Duty before it. Now most of the people that are giving the benefit of the doubt are casual gamers who think that they are actually hardcore gamers because they think that FPS is the only hardcore genre. I can't stand those people.

yes first post but yeah i totally agree
all ive seen is some trailers and gameplay footage that may or may not have been rigged to look better than the actual game.
but the biggets selling point for the for call of duty has been its multiplayer, and so far i no muliplayer footage has been seen. Maybe a beat is all they need to push this games sales beyond MW2

Hell yeah its an instant buy. Its gonna be the best FPS game yet again like it has been for years. IW is great. Tryarch is Great. Activsion sucks more harder than trailor park hooker. i wish activsion would just leave so these guys can do what they do best

As a member of the minority that doesn't care for the FPS genre, I can see that the Call of Duty franchise is becoming "generically good" in that the games are fun for those who enjoy the genre, but never become so mindblowingly awesome that gamers outside of the FPS fandom get interested.
Case in point, my interest in the franchise peaked with the Infinity Ward case. I'm sure Black Ops will be fun, but I won't be playing it.

Black Ops look to me what I wanted to the call of duty series some serious updates to the core gameplay and more variety I was expecting from MW2, which sadly no one ever really got. It didnt branch out enough and the game was just made to casual with no recoil,and every gun feeling the same and overpowered.
What I hope Black Ops brings back is a kickass story that make COHESIVE SENSE and brings as much thrill, surprises and twist cod4's had. I haven't given up on this series, and I'm hoping we get another kickass entry into the awesome franchise.
