As if this week wasn't already an overload of X-Men: First Class casting news, it seems that the best has been saved for last. (That is, unless they unload more on the weekend.) Deadline is reporting that the one and only Kevin Bacon has been offered the role of the film's villain. While Bacon is reportedly in negotiations for the role, no other details have been revealed on exactly who he would play. Speculating, one could imagine names like Mr. Sinister, Cameron Hodge, or Sebastian Shaw (which, with the inclusion of Alice Eve as Emma Frost, would make sense for a Hellfire Club storyline.)
Besides having a new and rich hub of co-stars to link with in Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, the veteran actor would bring some established credibility to this cast of generally younger actors and newcomers, where even the actors playing Professor Xavier (James McAvoy) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender) are only 31 and 33 respectively.
What say you about Kevin Bacon as an X-Villain? Maybe we could we get Kenny Loggins to sing the First Class theme song "Genetically Freaky (For Your Love.)" (Keep a lookout for the 45 rpm and cassette single in a record store near you.)
