The Most Awkward Job At CES 2010 (Of Course, It Involves 3D)

You can argue that 3D's a fad, but it's not going anywhere anytime soon. TV manufacturers are seriously pushing consumers towards 3D-enabled TVs the next time they're in the market and Eurogamer reports that Ubisoft, who published Avatar: The Game with optional 3D late last year, is so confident 3D TVs are going to take off soon, everyone may have one in three years.

"The truth is I think it is a technology that's coming," said Ubisoft UK marketing boss Murray Pannel to the website recently. "We can't ignore it. It'll start slowly this year. But like HDTV I wouldn't rule out the fact that this will be installed in everyone's living room in three year's time, and for us to be in a position to have content that could really look absolutely amazing in 3D."

I've always been of the mind that if I'm buying a new HDTV (which will probably happen in the next year), I'm not against getting one with 3D turned on. If it's more expensive and I could get a larger set for the same amount of money -- or cheaper -- then I'll happily pass on home 3D.

Also, if they decided to convert Lost into 3D for no particular reason, I'd totally crumble. Sigh.

I wonder what economy this ubisoft guy lives in. I make six figures and i still have three tv's with big bootys, there are nothing wrong with those tvs so how do I justify paying so much for a material item. When the three tv's I have blow up I will buy a HD tv till then ill keep my big booty girls. Before anyone starts crying about how im missing out on the quality aspect of todays games I do have 1 32" in my workout room but that only happend because i didnt have a tv when i lived in Germany so I upgraded from no tv, to a HD tv.

I'd rather own an old 13" Black and white rabbit ear artifact then waste even a single dollar on a lame 3d anything...So ubisoft...How about taking a poll or something and not just using a coin to make such claims...

I hope not I have a lazy eye which makes the 3-D not as good for me. Also making movies and games 3-d for the sake of them being 3-D with no real reason for it is not a good idea.

I think HDTV technology is just over 10 years old, and is just now becoming more and more commonplace since they stopped selling SD TVs about a year ago.

3D is only a year or so old, and will take at least 10 years before one is in every home. Much longer before it's in every home.

Before it will happen, they have to pretty much stop making and selling non-3D TVs, so only 3D TVs are available, and have the cost down under the $1,000 mark.

I have 2 HDTVs myself, one about 6 years old, 38" 4:3 tube that can do 1080i and weighs about 200 lbs. The other, 2 months old 42" 16:9 plasma, also doing 1080i.

It will be years before I'm ready to upgrade the new set. The old one, yeah. It's showing it's age and I'm ok for upgrading that sometime in the next 5. Will I go 3D? Not at current prices, including having to spend an extra $600 on spare glasses that I expect will break with extended use by children on a quarterly basis.

Of course they're going to take off. The industry won't give us any other choice.

I don't even have an HDTV. *shrugs* Granted, because I'm a student. But it still isn't very interesting to me.

HD TVs can still be pretty expensive, and they've been out for over 3 years right? Maybe in 15 or 20 years, everyone will have 3D, if it's around that long. 3 years, maybe the last people will go HD.

I experienced 3D at best buy the other day and was blown away. The price isn't too bad either, a 40inch Bravia is $2000, and my PS3 is already 3D ready. My only complaint is the glasses. Each person is going to need a $150 pair.

Hmmmm... I think that they (HDTV companies) need to make 3D TVs that don't use 3D glasses before I even think to get one. When you wear the glasses you look like a total dork and the way that if you have motion sickness (myself) wearing the 3D glasses for a long period of time make me sick to my stomach. So adding that to my games will make it so unappealing that I think being in three dimensional gaming just needs to stop. It seems cool but I think that we need to have a way to do it without the use of those dorky 3D glasses.

in 3 years everyone will have a 3DS or the 3D IPhone/ Ipod Touch, only 10% of people will have a 3D tv and they will complain about the glasses.

What is he smoking. HD has been out for how long and it is certainly not in every household. Sure maybe if they were glasses free but they arn't and the setup is 5 times what a normal TV goes for. This statement is ludicrous in this type of economy.

I guess those fat cats think everyone has swimming pools filled with hundred dollar bills.
