The Most Awkward Job At CES 2010 (Of Course, It Involves 3D)

You can argue that 3D's a fad, but it's not going anywhere anytime soon. TV manufacturers are seriously pushing consumers towards 3D-enabled TVs the next time they're in the market and Eurogamer reports that Ubisoft, who published Avatar: The Game with optional 3D late last year, is so confident 3D TVs are going to take off soon, everyone may have one in three years.

"The truth is I think it is a technology that's coming," said Ubisoft UK marketing boss Murray Pannel to the website recently. "We can't ignore it. It'll start slowly this year. But like HDTV I wouldn't rule out the fact that this will be installed in everyone's living room in three year's time, and for us to be in a position to have content that could really look absolutely amazing in 3D."

I've always been of the mind that if I'm buying a new HDTV (which will probably happen in the next year), I'm not against getting one with 3D turned on. If it's more expensive and I could get a larger set for the same amount of money -- or cheaper -- then I'll happily pass on home 3D.

Also, if they decided to convert Lost into 3D for no particular reason, I'd totally crumble. Sigh.

The only reason I got an HDTV is because it was on sale to begin with and my wife had a 20% discount on top of that sale price. My friend got the same TV a fiew years ago and payed double what I got if for. My advice to people interested in getting an HDTV is to save a bit and shop on BLACK FRIDAY at Walmart. You will not get a better deal.

I'll let the early adopters bite the bullet on this fad and wait for black Friday in 2years or so when I'll be able to pick up a set with more features and better specs than any of this early tech on the market.

i think people need to actually go to best buy and look at a 3d tv. i have looked at several and the samsungs at least are pretty awesome. the price isnt really that bad; imean if u look at the price of hdtvs when they first came out they were about the same. the glasses really arent that bad and they dont make everything around u fuzzy either. i was able text on my phone and even watch the other non 3dtvs perectly while wearing the glasses. i just think people need to go and try it out before they judge, because it changed my opinion.

In other news, Ubisoft has been confirmed as having mental disabilities. After months of saying whatever the heck comes into their head, Ubisoft, collectively as a company has been diagnosed as having "some kind of mental issues." "We think it started when they made that crummy CSI game, then as the internet dependent DRM was added and they started on the 3d fad, we assumed the worst. This thing about 3d in 3 years just confirms our suspicions," claimed one forum poster. Another poster was heard to ask, "Can I get some of whatever they are smoking over there at Ubisoft?"

    And you've just been fed.

the only way i get a 3d tv is if my cable company makes it that my signal i recieve from them can only be recieved and translated into a picture by a 3D television. Till then ill keep my 1 HD tv and my three Big booty SD tvs.

They honestly think that in the middle of a double dip ressesion people are going to blow 3,000 on a 3D TV, plus another 1,000 so both mom dad, and the 3-4 kids can watch as well, plus a BD player that can play 3D BDs all in the space of 3 years?

90% of people just bought an HDTV (I finally got a 32inch 1080pHDTV from Vizio and am happy as a clam with it ruing in 24p for my BD movies, and my PS3 as a game/BD player) Also my dad just got a BD player, and we all have HDTVs now............

Thne last thing we are going to do is blow more cash on bigger and if you go into a retail store some times over priced 12,000 3D ready HDTVs.........

In fact out of all my online friends about 80% of them have an HDTV or PC monitor of some type. The simple fact is that most customers are only buying an HDTV when their old SDTV dies. That may mean the last SDTV dies out in the next 3 years, but it wont mean everybody is going to run out and buy a 3DTV. Thats just insane talk, plus how many times has Ubisoft been wrong on this front?

Dude, I don't even have an HDTV yet, so I don't think I'm getting a 3D one in the next 3 years. My old tv still works fine, and it's much bigger than any HD I'd be able to buy now. It's not really THAT big of a difference. I don't care whether or not I can count the pores on David Wright's face. I'd rather save that money for more games, or beer.

Have you ever noticed that if you take off your glasses in the theater and hold them in front of your eyes (farther from your face) the parts that you see through the eye pieces aren't distorted at all unlike a real pair of glasses? Well, maybe if they just took ALOT of those and put a coating over the screen then we wouldn't have to wear those glasses. I don't know. Just making a suggestion.
