Get Ready for the EVO Championship Series World Finals 2010 This Weekend!
Ahh, Las Vegas. You are home to so many great things -- Wayne Newton, blackjack, a topless car wash -- and this weekend (July 9-11), you will play host to the mother of all fighting game tournaments, the EVO Championship Series World Finals 2010
If you have even a passing interesting in fighting games, then get ready to have your mind blown. To properly prepare yourself, we've collected some of the most spectacular moments in EVO Championship Series history to get ready for this weekend's awesome fighting game Thunderdome!
The Infamous Daigo Parry Video
In this video from EVO 2004, two of the top Street Fighter players in the world, Daigo Umehara and Justin Wong, face off in front of a crowd of hundreds in one of the final rounds of competition. Wong (Chun-Li) damages Daigo (Ken) to the point where even chip damage from a simple block would end the round. When Wong pulls a super combo, Daigo is able to parry every single one of the 15 hits of the combo.
For those new to the Street Fighter world, a parry is a very risky move that enables a player to block incoming hits without losing heath. It's risky because it can only be done by moving towards an opponent at the precise moment when a hit lands. Watch Daigo do it 15 times in a row and see what happens then.
Duc Vs. Sanford Grudge Match at EVO 2006
In this next video, Duc Do and Sanford Kelly face-off in front of a crowd of hundreds at EVO 2006. It's really reminiscent of a big time sporting even, with everyone cheering them on as they compete in a Marvel vs. Capcom Grudge Match. This one is really about the electrifying mood of EVO. Kinda makes you want to watch this year's stream, doesn't it?
Daigo Umehara Vs. Justin Wong in the EVO 2009 Street Fighter IV Grand Finals
Finally, here's a video put together by a Justin Wong fan, showcasing the excitement around his appearance in the Street Fighter IV Grand FInals against Daigo Umehara. Again, the buzz and energy around these two legends meeting in the finals is palpable, even through the medium of video.
Each year, the best gaming competitors from around the world gather and compete for a chance to become a champion, and in the process, legendary moments in gaming are born.  EVO 2010 will feature tournament play for six different games including Super Street Fighter IV, Tekken 6, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, Melty Blood, Street Fighter II HD Remix and Marvel vs. Capcom 2. Top players will also be in attendance including Daigo Umehara, Justin Wong, Sandford Kelly and more.
The question is: will you be there to catch all the intense action? As always, G4tv.com is here to make your life easier and we'll be streaming all the best action live on the site. Visit our EVO site for a complete schedule, including the Super Street Fighter IV tournament finals co-hosted by X-Play's Adam Sessler.
