BioWare today announced the first official details about their much anticipated sequel Dragon Age II. The full skinny on the Dragon Age: Origins follow-up will appear in a cover story in the next issue of Game Informer, but BioWare has revealed some preliminary details to get your bits in prime chomping position.
- Embark upon an all-new adventure that takes place across an entire decade and shapes itself around every decision you make.
- Determine your rise to power from a destitute refugee to the revered champion of the land.
- Think like a general and fight like a Spartan with dynamic new combat mechanics that put you right in the heart of battle whether you are a mage, rogue, or warrior.
- Go deeper into the world of Dragon Age with an entirely new cinematic experience that grabs hold of you from the beginning and never lets go.
- Discover a whole realm rendered in stunning detail with updated graphics and a new visual style.

An official Dragon Age II trailer will be released on August 17, and eager fans can start placing preorders for the game starting at 10:00am today. No release date is currently known, however BioWare did tease via an insert in copies of Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening that something Dragon Age related would be coming February 1, 2011. Seems like as good a bet as any at this point.

Holy donkey. I am so pumped. All the improvements sound incredible, and the fact that the game takes place across a decade just screams epicness. DA:O was great but had a lot of room for improvements, just like Mass Effect 1. And the improvements from ME1 to ME2 were amazing, so hopefully BioWare can pull that same level of improvement from DA:O 1 to DA:O 2.

how about Jade Empire 2?

Seems a bit soon, if that Feb. date holds true. Just a little over a year? For Bioware, that's pretty quick. The first DA went into developement around the same time as Jade Empire. Then again, when you consider the labyrinthine backstory and massive codex that was part of DA, coming up with all that probably took a large chunk of time. Since the mythology is already in place, they can spend the majority of their time working on the game. Does anyone know which branch of Bioware is working on it?

"updated graphics and new visual style" THANK GOD

I hope this time they wont just slap together the console version, One of the worst looking games last year on all systems but still grabs a 5 out of 5.......i guess that is what happens when you have DA,ME2 and an MMO all in the works, yea i know they have help from E.A but still, I don't care how good the story was i refuse to pay 60$ for a game now days to look that poor and no i am not trolling i am just spitting the truth! There is no reason why that game looked the way it did at launch on both 360 and ps3.

And I had given up hope on a Dragon Age 2 anytime soon since nothing was at E3!
But it stinks that it doesn't seem like it will be related to the first one at all. Either way I can't way it sounds awesome. Seriously BioWare is going to own my life next year between this and SWTOR. Going to break up with my g/f now =P
