G4tv.com reviewer Gus Mustrapa didn't care much for Alpha Protocol. The gaming public seemed to agree, too, as the game failed to light up the sales charts. Combine the two and Sega's already come to the conclusion that Alpha Protocol 2 isn't going to happen, according to a CVG report.
The site recently spoke with Sega of America president and CEO Mike Hayes about the game.
"The game hasn't sold what we've expected, therefore we won't be doing a sequel," he said.
Hayes applauded the game's concept as "brilliant," but said the quality of the game wasn't up to snuff. Developer Obsidian Entertainment has previously said a sequel pitch was already in Sega's hands, so it's not as though the idea of a follow-up hadn't already been floated by all parties.
Obsidian was previously connected to Sega with a now-cancelled Aliens RPG. The RPG-focused studio is currently working on finishing this fall's Fallout: New Vegas for Bethesda Softworks.

Seriously did anyone here actually play this game? It was awesome, i mean it had it's share of faults, but come on the good totally outweighed the bad. I'm wondering just how far the reviewers and all the haters played into this game, i couldn't put it down and everyone that i know feels just like i do. It totally sucked beating this awesome game and knowing that there wasn't going to be a sequel, before you hate on it spend a few hours or days with it.

Its kinda sad to here that alpha protocol isn't getting a sequel. I've played the game myself and it had so much potential to be such a good game but with the poor visual and terrible AI the game failed. I actually read a forum on another site that states Mike Hayes made obsidian juggle alpha protocol and fallout new vegas at the same time. Obviously fallout was going to get the most attention. I would blame mike Hayes more then obsidian.

Personally, I liked the game. That being said, it was far from perfect. It had major issues: bad cover system, dumb AI, half-ass rendered graphics in some parts, crap romances (except Sie), stealth was a joke. But I still liked it for some reason. I just can't advise anyone to buy it. I'll loan you mine if you want to try it out though, lol.

cuz that game SUCKED!!

Sega needs to give up. When the last time they've released anything that wasn't a compilation of old games that was worth anything? Nintendo beat then down for 2 generations of consoles. Then Sony and Nintendo beat them down for a 3rd. They finally gave up trying to do hardware. If they can't get the games right then they need to close up shop.

Too Human had mixed reviews the same as AP and didn't sell well as predicted. But did X-Play stated something like the gaming public didn't care much for Too Human? Wait, X-Play rated it 4 out 5, so what X-Play gives must reflect the gaming public!

"The game hasn't sold what we've expected, therefore we won't be doing a sequel," he said.
Well of course the game didn't sell what you expected, it was a BAD game. AP fell into a few big flaws as far as I can see.
1. It announced itself too big, too bad, too early. I remember reading about AP in OXM and thinking, "Oh Damn! This sounds Good!" and later on when I was at GameCrazy picking up another game I pre-ordered I took my 5 Dollars and put 5 on a Pre-order of AP. I was some what excited for the game, it sounded like it was almost all ready and the pics in the article were solid.
2. It was delayed. I don't like games being delayed. I simply don't. I don't take you to Denny's let your order a Grandslam Breakfast and tell you that it'll be ready in 10 minutes and with 3 minutes left say, 'Oh actually we want to make sure the egg is really cooked, it'll be another 23 minutes' ESPECIALLY for an obscure, no track record video game like this. MW2 and GTA4 are big games that can delay and still keep a fan base, but if your some craptastic video game that tells me one date, and then switches it on me, then I've lost interest. I think this game came out June 1st, I remember thinking to myself. 'Oh hey I could go buy that, if I still had any interest in it' but really I didn't. The Delay really sucked what interest I had in the game away from me. I focused on a proven game Red Dead Revolver (I know it was the first RDR but everyone knew it was going to be good)
3. It just looks like a bad game. I saw some video of it, and it just looked clunky and PS2 Graphics. Which is usually fine (the graphics part atleast) Because to me Fable 2 didn't really have good graphics, but the clunkiness, my loss of interest in it from the delay AND the fact that almost every reviewer (X Play, OXM, G4) I consider legit, just said it was a bad game that lacked polish. I watched the Sex Scene, really proved to me that the dialouge sucked. A Game like AP NEEDS a sex scene like that, so you atleast FEEL like you didn't waste all your money.
Sometimes I wish I could kidnap and torture game developers. I mean they HAVE to know they are putting out Craptastic games, there is no way someone worked on Kane and Lynch, Alpha Protocol or that Avatar game and said, 'Yeah! People will enjoy this!'.

It's really sad, because in the hands of a competent developer (like Bioware), this could have been a truly great game. But yet even after all the delays this game had, it still got released unfinished and unpolished. Obsidian really needs to start turning their reputation around and FAST (yes it IS their fault, not Sega's), otherwise they're going to end up with an ugly stigma that's going to put them out of business. It's like they're becoming the M. Night Shaymalan of game developing.

What but it got a 96 and everything it had multiple types of dialogue, no wait...that was Mass Effect 2. Well didn't It have a likable main character who has a way with all the ladies?...No wait that was Nathan Drake from Uncharted...What was Alpha Protocol? Oh yeah that's right, the clunky game. Good call SEGA

That's like saying " I've decided to not throw-up anymore". Really? How about making good games instead of releasing unpolished turds. Whoever was involved is responsible, not just one entity. It took a whole industry to create this morass of crap being released today, and sheep to but it. RENT it before you go screaming into the night with money in fists at midnight.
twoscrews
IIMHOg the name, mass protocol or crap effect would have been better suited for this game.
this was nothing more than a febal attempt at becoming a mass effect wanna be, with some time and polish I'm sure it would have been a great game, but to say it's deserving of part 2 is ludicrous.
I would truly much rather watch paint dry than to play this again
rayken15
anyone surprised?... anyone?
ProudFilipino
I never thought this game would be any good ever since I first read about it on PSM and saw gameplay online to bad for my friend he was excited for Alpha Protocol and thought it was going to be a big title but boy was he wrong
Prax150
Keep in mind this game came out at a really competitive time for video games. May alone saw Red Dead, Mario Galaxy 2, Alan Wake, 3 big racing games (Split/Second, Modnation Racers and Blur), Lost Planet 2, Skate 3, UFC 2010... hell, stick Batman GOTY in there too. Whether it was good or not it simply stood no chance.
I was somewhat intrigued by this game, and frankly if it had come out in July or August I might have considered picking it up regardless of reviews. At least point they'll be lucky to get $20 bucks out of me if I find it in a bargain bin in a few months.

Agreed, @DreamingDarklyRobin, agreed.
DreamingDarklyRobin
Sadly it is Obsidian's fault, which isn't saying much for Dungeon Siege 3, Fallout:NV, and possibly Chrono Trigger.

@Gear200
You mean KOTOR 2 right? The buggy and unfinished one? The one that eventually did get finished by a player mod?
Gear200
Before everyone blames Obsidian for this fail, Alpha Protocol was mainly controlled by Sega, not Obsidian. Blame Sega for this, they've allways made bad games anyway, plus who can honestly hate Obsidian after their work on Star Wars KOTOR.
King_Aaron_Moses
FTW Obsidian is the plague i only hope they dont f with New Vegas. Dam it i know Obsidian cant do nothing right this is further proof. Its hard to say such bad things about some body's work but dam.
*shakes head in shame*
hoof_hearted4
i agree ratent
this game probably would have been just fine if they had put some more time into it...the concept was pretty good and the large amounts of modding and rpg elements would have kept me hook if it werent for everything else being done soo poorly
but i dont think you have to worry about FO:NV. they engine and everything is already there, sure there is still a lot of work to do but it should be pretty hard to mess up and from all the gameplay ive seen it looks just fine and im looking forward to it no matter what reviews say, though im guessing it will get good reviews.
