Final Fantasy 14 Online has a street date. The collector's edition of the MMO will be out in Europe on September 22nd, with the PS3 version hitting in March 2011.
Two versions of Square Enix's game will be released on the PC. The collector's edition will feature a behind-the-scenes DVD, a branded "security token," a tumbler, a map, a travel journal including concept art, the "Onion Helm" in-game item, a 30-day free trial period for the game and a pass that allows a guest to play for free for a limited time.
The regular version features the game, in a box. It probably has a manual as well.
The monthly subscription fee will be £8.99 (about $13.50) with additional characters available for £2.10 (about $3) a month. You can have up to eight characters on any one account.
There is no info on the North American release of the game, but given the price, and the impressions you form from our preview and through this trailer...
... are you planning to cancel your World of Warcraft sub?

I will have to give this a go, after 6+ years of FFXI on shiva, it's only proper. I may be deep into The Old Republic though, only time will tell, it's sometimes frustrating being a "Jedi" lost in a "Final Fantasy" world.

@AnonymouZero: Yea totally! That one dude has so much experience in everything, his opinion must be valid for everything! Just wish I could remember his name!

lul, same characters as 11.... sugh uglyness and blandness does not inspire to change mmo's.
i think one dude compared the gameplay to freaking runescape... hahahhaha

ff11 isnt superior to anything, dude...

I am a little surprised that Europe is getting the game first and also that it will be taking so long to port to the Ps3, Besides this why is there no North American or Pc release date yet considering FFXI was more popular in NA over Eurpose and that most players were Pc based..
So yeah I am a bit baffled...

On another note. If this isn't free on Ps3 I'm skipping this one.

I can't wait till there's more information on this game. If there's a subscription fee more than $10 a month, then the game can't be more than $40 at the store, isn't that what WOW costs? But hopefully we see a traditional Final Fantasy game after this one because that's what I want more than anything!

Well looks like I am not playing it till next year. I want to play it on my PS3. Actually if the PS3 version really doesnt come out till march than I wont be playing at all depending on when SW:TOR comes out

I seem to remember their being talk of ti being free originally; what happened to that?

Amazon says the 29th of September

I know it's not a giant change (to some), but I still don't get interspersing different genres into the numbered series. XI should have been FFOnline and XIV should be FFO II...or else FFT should have been FFVIII: Strategy! >_>

Amazon is taking pre-orders and has it listed as 3/31/11. Although they're not always the most accurate predictor of when games are released.

I'm a former diehard Final Fantasy fan and XIV is such a waste of time and what's the point? FFXI is still around and is superior to XIV. If it didn't have a subscription fee then I'd be on it like a remake of a good Final Fantasy but since they want the same cost as XI they can go to hell. As far as I'm concerned Square-Enix is dead and until they can prove otherwise they ain't getting anymore of my money outside of Final Fantasy remakes and XI's subscription.
Look at what Square-Enix is doing! They're killing Final Fantasy, Front Mission and well every other original IP they owned and now own... except Dragon Warrior. I blame Yoichi Wada's obsession with western culture for Square-Enix's problems. Square-Enix has lost it's way and I feel betrayed as a fan of their former games before 2003, come to think of it didn't Hironobu Sakaguchi leave Square-Enix around that time? Coincedance? I think not!

i would absolutly love to give this game a shot... but i hate the stupid monthly fee..
it would sell alot better in NA if they went with the micro-transaction set up, but knowing how large the FF series is over in japan they dont have to worry about people not getting it due to the mo. fee

No, I wil stop playing WoW when SWtOR comes out. Not for some stupid grind fueled asian game. I really hate grinding...

I know, not on subject, but does Stephen Johnson just post as much as he can before noon and then naps the rest of the day? I mean that's what I would do, am just curious.

It's tradition, you must see the series building on its foundation. Would you change something like Call of Duty? or Street Fighter? Besides its not a western game, this series goes through a ton of prep work to get to NA.
Like the other day I thought to myself, did they ever try to call popcorn something else besides popcorn? lol

I am so sick of Final Fantasy. Get a new name. I mean XIV? Too much.
