UPDATE 10:30AM PST: Patrick Klepek here with a brief update on Hulu Plus. Sony has refused to acknowledge whether or not PlayStation Plus is required to view Hulu Plus on your PlayStation 3.
"We don't comment on rumors and speculation which is all that is at this point," said a Sony spokesperson to me this morning, after having been presented with the most recent PlayStation Plus evidence. "We will have more information on Hulu Plus coming to the PS3 in the near future."
Reading between the lines, if Hulu Plus wasn't required, this should have been settled. Signs are pointing to Sony adopting Microsoft's strategy of placing media content behind their new service.
ORIGINAL STORY: As announced yesterday, Hulu Plus is coming to your PC, iPod, game console and other devices. For $9.95 a month, you'll be able to watch Hulu's programming anywhere.
According to the Hulu launch trailer you see below, Hulu will be coming to the PlayStation 3 in July.
It looks like Hulu Plus will require a subscription to Sony's new PlayStation Plus to work. The info comes from Technologizer, who located some source code on Hulu's site that reads:
“The instructions below will help you install Hulu Plus on your PS3. Note: you must be a subscriber of the PlayStation Plus Network.”
It's not confirmed, but it looks like two different "Plus" subscriptions will be required to watch Hulu through your PS3. The grand total cost: $170 a year.
Before you get angry, consider this: Netflix requires a Gold membership on your 360, and when Hulu comes to Microsoft's system, it will require a Gold account as well. Speaking of Hulu on the 360, you're going to be waiting a bit to try it out: It's not scheduled to launch on the 360 until "Early 2011."
So, overall, is it worth it? If you're a two-system person, which subscription will you use?

It is great to finally have Hulu Plus in Sony Playstation 3. This gives us more ways to enjoy our internet-ready gadgets at home connected wirelessly via a wireless router. And speaking of wireless routers, if you're looking for a good one, I recommend you check out the Netgear Wireless Router for Video and Gaming. You can use this device to connect computers, gaming consoles, notebooks, or wireless printers, and also your networked home theater devices. You can also use this to stream video and music from a USB drive to media players and DLNA TV's, even without using a computer. Now that's one powerful wireless router for you. Hulu is not available everywhere and saying so is not true, hulu only have rights to show their content in the USA and people outside there should not be under any delusions otherwise so it's useless to us that are not in the USA.

Living in Canada literally an hour away from where it is available in the states I have no clue how good or how bad the Hulu service is so I could care less.

Everyone is complaining about how all of these companies are coming out and trying to overcharge us for everything. What else is new about that concept?? Netflix and Hulu is just the beginning. Soon we're going to see other services coming out on Xbox and PSN and will charge monthly fees for their services. Big business has realized how lucrative the gaming industry is, especially with console gaming. Online services are becomming more and more aware of how console gamers will pretty much buy anything Xbox or Playstation tells then to if it's offered on their network. I see how the idea of Hulu plus will work. But I have cable, internet, and most of my favorite shows on DVD boxsets. So for a customer like me, I don't really see a point in paying 10 bucks a month for a service that I don't need.

I know people want B.W.C.(b^*$#, whine and complain) about PSN+ but it's not that bad the content is an extra console luxury(additional to the console it's self being a luxury). And this content is are okay accessories maybe it should be a little cheaper. Anyway concerning Hulu; many speculated about the PSP2 and when Sony was asked about it being at E3 they said "we do not comment on rumors and speculation etc." and we didn't see a PSP2 at E3. Personally if they do tag Hulu to PS+ it would be smart to include it with the yearly $50 subscription. Hulu is already taking a lot of heat on the $9.99 a month subscription. Reading between the lines is useless if you can't read it right is what I'm saying.

Well, that sucks. I really didn't expect Sony to go the Microsoft route with PSN Plus. This means that every new feature that comes to PSN is going to be locked away behind PSN Plus. I really thought Sony was going to be friendly with the PSN like they seemed to be acting. They were offering free games and exclusive demo's etc. That is awesome. Locking away awesome features is something Microsoft does, and I never thought Sony would want to be looked at the same way Microsoft is.
