I enjoyed playing through both Gears of War and Gears of War 2. Neither blew me away, but they were pretty enjoyable co-op experiences. I've heard from a number of folks who are looking forward to Gears of War 3 because they're hoping it'll capture more of Gears of War than Gears of War 2. That there was such a favorable differentiation between the two came as a surprise to me, but user Pwnproof reinforced what I've heard from others in a comment from earlier today:
"I loved the first game with all my heart, the second one not so much.....So maybe if this one can re-spark the greatness i got from the first one i might grab an arcade 360 (still have my old HDD) but it will have to be a really good game at lest enough to make me buy this system again. If not oh well but i shall see."
Are you with Pwnproof?

The first Gears of War was an amazing game. As was the second one. But the first just had the advantage of being the first trip into this world, and it blew us all away. The second game carried of a whole hell of a lot of what made the first game work, but I the story was a little more (or less in some cases) than what some people were wanting out of their Gears. I'll gladly play either one you hand me, but if I'm to chose: Long live the original Gears of War! :)

I love the first one (I still play it) but I absolutely hate the second one. Gears 2 has so many technical issues, plus they changed the gameplay way too much.

The first one blew me away! I must have played it 4 times in a row..... That opening scene in the first Gears where your on the chopper escaping from prison will easily be remembered as one of my best gaming moments. I felt like I was on the chopper with those guys getting ready to enter hell. The second Gears was really a extension of the first and I'm sure the third will do the same. I know what to expect already from this franchise and that's why I'll buy Gears 3 when it's here. I'm sure the rest of the free world will follow. If you enjoyed the other Gears, you will not be disappointed....

Having filmed machinima in Gears 2 I've noticed a few little touches that made it better than the first, at least in terms of multiplayer. Normally I don't tend to notice the graphics in games (I mean hell, they'll be outdated in 2 or 3 years, why bother?) but Gears 2 had great art direction and way more colors that the first. Maybe it's just me as a film maker noticing stuff like that, but hey.

the first one was better than the second but i do like the features in the second.Off line mutiplayer solo and tag garendes on walls,no big boss at the end on two was a upset.

Is it just me, or does the daily reacharound sound somewhat sexual?

Its funny, the same thing happened to Resistance and Resistance 2, both were still great games but Resistance 2 just did not have that "it" factor the first one had. I think they both tried too hard to please the crowd and forget what made them both so good. Also Gears2 has horrid online...

I also liked the first one a little bit better also. Not a lot, mind you. Thought 2 was pretty much the same, only a bit bigger in scale. Maybe that was the problem.
