Director Sam Raimi (Army of Darkness, Spider-Man) was interviewed outside of the Saturn Awards in Los Angeles recently, and he answered some questions about the World of Warcraft movie that he's heading. According to Raimi, the movie will take place entirely in the world of Warcraft, so there will be no "real world" sections of the flick.
As for how the movie is coming, judging from Raimi's comments, it's still in the very early stages of pre-production.
"We're still working on the story," Raimi said. "We have a 40 page document that needs a lot more work... We're finding the characters and through the characters we're finding the story.... we're trying to create realistic characters that can live in the world of Warcraft, as though you were in the game itself, in one or two or three of those environments."

As a huge fan of Sam Raimi, I'm very excited to see what he'll do with World of Warcraft, but I'm far from convinced it will be a good movie. The immutable law of video game movies: They always suck. Perhaps this will be the one that breaks the trend, but I'm not putting any money on it.
