PlayStation NetworkOne of the bigger announcements at this year's E3 was the confirmation that Sony was expanding its PlayStation Network, and adding premium content. Today, the company has revealed the first content that will be available to Plus members of the PlayStation Network in Europe, once the service launches there on June 29. It includes a number of free games as well as "Premium Game Elements" (DLC) for Killzone 2.

Sony has yet to drop details on the US release of Plus content, but if I had to guess I'd speculat we'll get a similar deal in the U.S.  PS3 owners can choose from two subscription options: $17.99 for 90 days and $49.99 for a year.

If you sign up by August 3, you get a free copy of LittleBigPlanet, so if you need that game, it's enough in and of itself... But here's the full list:

Month 1: June 29th – August 3rd

  • Intro offer: LBP (standard edition)
  • PSN PS3: Wipeout HD
  • minis: Field Runners, Age of Zombies
  • PSone: Destruction Derby
  • Full Game Trial: Shatter, Savage Moon
  • Discounts: LBP God of War Pack – 50%, LBP: LocoRoco costume pack – 50%, Gravity Crash – 20%, Fat Princess DLC – 20%
  • Premium Game Element: Killzone 2: Steel & Titanium DLC
  • Push demo: ModNation Racers, Heavy Rain
  • Dynamic Themes: LBP Theme, SCEE produced: PlayStation “Game Is Just The Start” Dynamic Theme
  • 2x Fat Princess Premium Avatars

Month 2: August 4th – September 1st

  • PSN PS3: Zen Pinball
  • minis: Blast-Off, Alien Zombie Death
  • PSone: Medievil
  • Full Game Trial: inFamous, Mushroom Wars
  • Discounts: Zen Pinball Earth Defence Table – 20%, Warhawk Triple Combo Pack – 50%, Super Stardust HD – 20%, WipeOut HD Fury – 20%
  • Premium Game Elements: Motorstorm: Pacific Rift: Adrenaline Pack
  • Push Demo: Flower, Pixel Junk Shooter
  • Themes: “SCEE produced: PlayStation Plus Dynamic Theme, Heavy Rain Crime Scene Theme
2 x Heavy Rain Avatars (Bird and Butterfly)

Check out the details, right here. So... you've seen the list: What do you think? Is it worth the price?

I have both a PS3 and a 360 and I have to say hands down XBOX Live is superior to the PSN. I've played on both and prefer Live. Everyone has their personal preferences. I would be cautious though about PSN+...kind of sounds like they might bait and switch later on depending on the revenue they get. Just my two cents....

XBOX FAN BOYS PLEASE READ! Sony fans are super excited about this because this is an OPTION and we are not forced to pay for this. That is why this is such a great thing for PS3 owners. We don't care about how much better Xbox Live is. Yes the difference use to be huge but now Sony is finally making some good decisions to shorten that gap. And I'm willing to bet that most of you have never even touched a PS3 console so don't run your mouth about things you have no idea about. I don't care to hear you say the same thing over and over so go comment on Xbox related stories unless you have something intelligent to say.

Oops, I didnt mean to say it was free. /facepalm. I'm getting tired. What I meant to say was:

Thing is, you're free to choose.

    I'm going to sleep.

The thing is, it's free. If you feel it's not worth spending the money on, don't buy it. If you feel like it's a good deal, buy it. It's funny how all of the Xbox supporters come in and say we're getting ripped off. Well, if we are, how does that hurt you? What's the point in judging somebody who does want to spend the money on it? Oh that's right, you have to have a reason to whine.

In the end, it's all about personal choice. If you don't agree with that, well, ok. Life's tough I suppose.

Sure, at first they'll entice you with free games and 'premium content'. But soon that everything will be 'premium content'. Thats just the bidness people; I would know, I'm an engineer./

I don't buy a lot of games / add-ons on the PSN Store, so the new PSN+ doesn't interest me. I just play online, and sometimes, SOMETIMES, get DLC. Not enough to warrant $50 a year.

Along with my other comments, I feel like no one mentioned that people compare services and what is offered but they are not mentioning that Sony is pushing the majority of this stuff FREE monthly. When you break it down to value the PSN comes out to being worth more unless Cross game chat is worth about 8 times the fee of PlayStation PLUS.

    PS+ is B.S.

You must give up the content when your subscription expires!!! So instead of "...paying to play," you are "...paying to lease content from the psn store." I cannot see any reason to buy this, thought they'd at least throw in a couple of movie rentals or something. Seriously, i've never owned a xbox, so i'm no fanboy, but i cannot for the life of me figure out why people are so excited about ps+.

Who in their right minds are going to d/l 25+gb games from psn? Unless their utilizing something new (cloud tech?), that's the only way you're going to play infamous unless you buy it. I'd also bet my left nut, these d/l games "save files" will be incompatible with the disc versions (GOTYeditions, etc).
