We've been waiting for Retro Studios to emerge since Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, but as a developer known for high-octane first-person games, I don't think anyone expected them to come back to the stage with a very much old school reinvention of Donkey Kong Country. Yet Donkey Kong Country Returns was one of E3's biggest surprises and I had a chance to play it:
"Donkey Kong Country Returns looks and plays like the Donkey Kong Country you remember. In a good way. One of the great joys of playing Donkey Kong Country was searching high and low for secrets. This is before Rare went overboard on collectibles and started designing all of their extracurricular gameplay around the concept."
