Microsoft ended its E3 press conference today with a bombshell: A new Xbox, with a slimmer profile and built in wi-fi will be on store shelves later this week.
The new Xbox has a 250 GB hard-drive, and was called "whisper quiet." It will sell for $299.
Channeling Oprah a bit, Microsoft also announced that the entire audience at their E3 press event would be sent one of the new 360s. Amazing, right? Thanks for the generosity, Microsoft!
Interestingly, Microsoft did not mention a price for the Kinect device at the conference. I wonder why not? Care to speculate in our comment section? Or guess a price-point?

I think it will go for $299 to start. But if Microsoft wants to go for the kill release it at $199. Look everybody has a X-box 360 mine is going back to Gamestop to get credit for the new Kinect slim. Hope it comes out early with planty of new 360's go around.

kinect, is the xbox, trying to better the wii at it own job. not for me, the wii is to kiddy and the kinect, looking more kiddy games. and the ps3 move also looking kiddy like... let nintendo have the motion sensor.. gear of war looks epic, metal gear rising looks excellent, going to buy that, wonder if there going to bring the others to xbox.... not snakeeatter... that was not that good... call of duty - black ops, seen the video like 10 time when they said it was coming out, wish they would of shown "metal of honor" because it comes out a month before "call of duty". a slimmer xbox, didn't ps3 come out with this idea already, or am i dreaming, i hope this one doesn't get the ring of death, with-in the first year.... i wonder if the slimmer xbox if the harddrive is internal, so you can put your old xbox harddrive on top and transfer your info into the new one...

i really like this new look for the 360, mine is so noisy, if i didn't just dish out 100 bucks for the N wireless adapter i would try and sell this one and get the new one.

To me this has been the bigger announcement of the MS conference. The only things that had that wow factor, to me, at the conference was GeOW3 and then finally the new 360 slim that doesn't really look slim rather slick.
To be honest, Kinect just did nothing for me. Nothing made me want to buy it. All these things I have seen done on other systems. The games they showed not really interested. It has so much potential, but nothing awesome was shown. At least for Fable 3 they should have shown how it works in conjunction with Kinect, I was very interested with this touch mechanic Molyneux has been talking about.
Well E3 is still young, there's still two days left to be wow'd.

Am I wrong here, but that 360 doesn't look much slimmer to me, but of course they didn't show it next to the old one on this page so I might be wrong. Looks pretty cool though!

The design is a step in the right direction but unless my xbox 360 red rings I won't have use for it I already have 3 360s & a 250gb hard drive the addition of wifi is nothing to make me buy a 4th console. I want to know how $299 plus $149 is gonna make anyway in the market for motion controlled gaming experience buy a 360 seriously if I have a 8 year old & I want them to play games that keep them off the couch the wii has a wide selection of titles for half the cost of a 360 plus a kinect. Don't see how M$ Gonna compete

Why are people complaining about what it looks like? I can't ever recall a time where I looked at the 360 console while playing aside from the time I watched the red ring of death appear on a friends in the middle of a game.

I was actually planning on getting a next gen console this yea. I know i'm really far behind but my budget isn't the biggest. I was heavily leaning toward PS2 because I trust in their products and the ring of death would just ruin me. Plus, its $300 and comes with blue-ray and the online is free. I dont understand why people say xbox live is better if in the end it doesnt make a difference. But, if xbox 360 is $300 and has some interesting exclusives, I might change my mind. Depends, is mgs rising xbox exclusive???
