Microsoft ended its E3 press conference today with a bombshell: A new Xbox, with a slimmer profile and built in wi-fi will be on store shelves later this week.
The new Xbox has a 250 GB hard-drive, and was called "whisper quiet." It will sell for $299.
Channeling Oprah a bit, Microsoft also announced that the entire audience at their E3 press event would be sent one of the new 360s. Amazing, right? Thanks for the generosity, Microsoft!
Interestingly, Microsoft did not mention a price for the Kinect device at the conference. I wonder why not? Care to speculate in our comment section? Or guess a price-point?

The wifi and 250 gb hard drive is a major step up from 60gb and ethernet cord. looks nice but i still have my pro. i was kind of surprised it was only 299 instead of like 399.

I don't think this new model is covered by the 3 year warranty, in all the documentation I've seen anyway they seem to indicate a 1 year standard warranty.
To be honest though my 3 year old, almost out out of warranty Elite could do with a swap. I was wanting to upgrade to 250GB HDD anyway so may as well upgrade the whole machine.

i gotta say, now i finally have a reason to get a 360. not that i didn't want one before, but i got a PS3 as a gift and i've had little incentive to save up for a decent 360. But with the built in wi-fi, and 250 GB hardrive, all i need is a little more time to get the cash. XD
As for Kinect.... i'm not quite modivated at all to get it. maybe when the price drops, but i agree with most of the other guy's microsofts looking at a $150 ish device here.

Nice!!!! MS knows that their boxes only last for about a month or so therefore, its a win win solution for them. Hand people a free xbox and once warranty runs out, new potential buyers =) Great Strategy =P

i would have guessed that the new xbox would have been close to the one portrayed in OXM (Official Xbox magazine)http://relatoriobrain box.files.wordpress.com/2009/0 9/xbox-720-design3.jpg. but i would have to guess that the new Kinect for 360 would be at least 100-150 dollars but i dont know if i wanna buy, i'm grown a custom to playing with the controller. And the new 360 design looks somewhat lazy as if they just bent the sides of an Elite and replaced the power button. I'm not saying it's not gonna be a hit or that it's a (bad) design but i think Microsoft could of done better

The xbox redesign looks like crap, and really changed nothing for anyone but new buyers. Still no blu ray, but hey, at least after 5 years they figured out how to not rip you off for wifi. Really, it's only more like a ps3. Also, natal I would guess 150$, seems very logical, but I won't be buying, navigation looks laggy and the games look like wii shovel ware. At least they had mgs rising and gears 3 make a showing, otherwise the conference would have been complete garbage. m$ really left it open for an easy Sony win this year.
