Microsft Unveils Kinect, Formerly Project Natal

Microsoft showed off some amazing new, non-gaming features of the Kinect at its E3 press conference today, showing off the device's ability to recognize gestures and voice commands. Kinect features motorized tilt function and a multi-array microphone, in addition to the camera and movement sensor. So it will swivel to follow you.

Microsoft showed off the interface as well. Kinect Hub is a Dashboard for the Kinect. You'll be able to navigate with either gestures or words. You'll say, "Xbox, play music!" and it will. You'll be like Scotty on the Enterprise!

my opinion is.. if it rubs you the right way.. buy it.. if you consider yourself to be a hardcore gamer... then don't.. I for myself am not ready to let go of my controller yet. for some reason it gives me a sense of satisfaction and Stress- relief to just holding it! lol.. but i Would buy the Kinect because of it's cool features. and it DOES have round breaking features.. it's not like the Eye Toy or the Wii.. it's much different and WE ALL know that. So kudos for MS. for at least TRYING to accommodate us with this new gadget that HONESTLY.. most of us aren't ready for.

Thank you Microsoft for providing all the overacting because I had never witnessed such fail of that magnitude before. LOL!!!

This comes across as very gimmicky. Without buttons to press for more specific functions I don't see how you can play anything other than very generalized games.

And... I love how the 360 fanboys (who bashed Nintendo 2.5 years ago) are coming out of the woodwork saying how great this is. LOL. Gotta love the hypocrisy.

And... I'm not a fanboy for any system, I own all three.

this can be both benefitting for people if they make games like wii fitnesse and dance games, but if all your going to do is sit on your ass and become even more fat by telling the thing to turn on the game thats just ridiculous

Seriously what is wrong with you people who complain that there isn't enough for the hardcore gamer. Fine don't buy it then, it's not aimed for you. The Wii proved that video games are not just for hardcore gamers, that they can get people who wouldn't normally be interested in the system up and moving around. My parents own a Wii and love to play tennis and bowling. This is just another aspect of the 360 trying to turn into a well rounded system. Microsoft still has Fable 3, Halo Reach, and GOW 3 coming out for the "hardcore" gamers.
I'm pretty excited about the Kinect. I like the idea of voice control and having a group of friends over and laughing at each other, which we currently do with Rock Band or going way back DDR. Guitar Hero, DDR, and Wii all seemed silly when then first came out, now look at them. They have defined a genre.

Women will see the Fitness games, preteens will see the dance games, kids will see the kitty and a 360 will be in every household in america.

I liked the star wars tho!

Very uninspiring presentation of Kinect. They games look cool for grandmas and 5 year olds, but traditional/hardcore gamers were left out in the cold. I do not mind of Kinect is for casual gaming, but why does Microsoft keeps saying that hardcore gamers will be taken care off.

Everyone keeps asking about the gaming experience and the hardcore gamer. You know what shut up with that hardcore gamer crap!! Because any hardcore gamer wouldn't even buy the Kinect or the Move. This was made with tthe casual gamer who owns a 360, because contrary to belief there are a bunch of those people who kids or boyfriends has a 360. But they only use it for Last Fm or Netflix. Now with the Kinect, they will have a much bigger experience with it as well. You fanboys can say what you want, but you can't deny that's awesome!! Who cares what it does for the hardcore gamer, it's not even out yet!! Give it a year, then will see where we are with the Kinect!!

K i am officially impressed. The voice recognition is a cool feature. I have been having problems with my Remote for DVD viewing, so the voice recognition feature will be a pleasant additon. can't wait to hear more about it.
