Rumor: Project Natal Could Be Renamed 'Kinect', Xbox 360 Slim On The Way

UPDATED [7:36 PM]: The USA Today story has been pulled, but We're at the event and Kinect is confirmed. More information at the press briefing tomorrow, but check out our other story to get a sense of what Kinect games are on the way. No official word on the 360 Slim, expect to hear yay or nay tomorrow.

[ORIGINAL STORY FOLLOWS]

On the eve of E3, everyone is trying to be the first to name Microsoft's Project Natal before Microsoft officially announces it. Back in May, rumors of Natal being renamed as "Wave" were the leading contender, but now it seems that the frontrunning replacement name for the device is "Kinect," thanks to new evidence from an Italian banner ad. Yes, internet advertising is the source for this rumor, so take it for what it's worth right now. Lending a little weight to the name though is that Kinect was a trademark filed in April by Microsoft, as was Wave.

In addition, the leak, which was discovered by a neogaf.com user, also sheds light on a potential redesigned black Xbox 360 Slim that's on the way. The Xbox 360 Slim is rumored to contain a 250GB hard drive and built-in WiFi, according to that same Italian internet advertisement. See the ad is after the jump along with more pics of the new supposedly redesigned black Xbox 360 Slim.

Rumor: Project Natal Could Be Renamed 'Kinect'

Whether or not Kinect is the new name for Natal remains to be seen, but we'll be at the Project Natal event in just a few hours to see if any announcement is made. Stay tuned for more.

The week that somebody at Microsoft said that the RROD is a thing of the past my friend's brand new Elite got the Ring. I don't think I'll ever be able to trust Microsoft, let alone believe the RROD will be fixed.

It's about time! The 360 is the only console without built in wi-fi. And the little wi-fi adapter thing is way too pricey.

It may be a minor nagging concern, but where is the slot-loaded disk? Is that still a tray?

Hmmm. So let me get this straight, Mircorsoft has a chance to redesign the worst looking console out of the bunch and they make it look worse? EPIC FAIL!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like that new 360 had too many shooters in it's bell and imploded grenade style haha.

the new slim looks like something out of one of those really weird abstract paintings you find at a new york art center made by a chronically depressed 20 something year old single white guy that wears one of those black beanies with a black turtleneck and black skinny jeans. i dont like it.

I don't understand why Microsoft would make Kinect look so rounded and smooth with almost no sharp edges and then redesign the 360 to be angular and sharp. If they are, in fact, going to market them in a bundle shouldn't they look similar?

Me and my brother co-owned our first Xbox up until 4 months ago. I have to admit I've been waiting to hear what they were going to be doing with the Xbox after Natal/Kinetic. While I'm unsure of the new design, but the fact it might have built in WI-FI and a GB hard drive. That might just sell me there. Now I can only hope for a price drop.

HI ALL. My 4th 360 died in Oct of 2009. I have been bangin on my "FAT" PS3 ever sense, but got my MISTY BLUE 80G modded to 250G HDD. I got it in March of 2008; and no real issues. Once the warranty was up; I ripped it apart and clean it real good; and it's ready for the next few yrs. But this "NEW SLIM 360". I don't know, it looks ok but "WILL SEE " says the blind man. The price also should be "LOOK ...... BUY ME !!!!" and the original HDD better fit and work with no issues.

Epic fail. The console has heat issues and they want to restrict airspace even more? I don't think M$ will EVER come out with a quality product. Ever. Kids will disagree but they're wrong. They don't have the experience the older gamers have.
