USA Today broke the news last night, and now we can tell you what we think of the incredibly ambitious Rock Band 3. Demonstrated for us at a pre-E3 event a few weeks ago, Rock Band 3 does indeed feature a keyboard (or if you prefer, keytar) and a "Pro" mode with high-caliber instruments that actually teach you how to play the real thing. If you will allow me to quote myself...
"Rock Band "Pro" is something that's built entirely separately from the regular Rock Band experience we're all familiar with. Requiring the use of brand new hardware (again developed by Mad Catz), the Pro guitar is a six-"string," 17-fret axe that has sensors at every position. This means actual notes and chords show up on the expanded note highway that kind of looks like mobile guitar tablature. The idea isn't to be complex for the sake of complexity, but to actually teach players how to make proper chord shapes, how to do real hammer-ons and pull-offs, and the musical theory behind everything. Basically, skills that you can transfer directly from your Rock Band guitar to a real guitar."
For more details, including the first known songs on the setlist, read my full Rock Band 3 preview.

I hope this doesn't turn out to be too hard. i don't play music games top learn how to play the real thing i play them with friends for fun. though if the controls are easy enough to pick up and it helps me learn how to play a real guitar the HELL YEAH!
Scalfer1
why dont they leave a game as a game and leave real guitar to real guitar players

Rock Band is teaching people how to play real instruments while Guitar Hero 37 is letting you drive around in a tour bus and change into ManBearPig.
Harmonix: + 1
Neversoft/Activision: -10

I can't wait! This will actually get me to play guitar on these games! Although, I'm not sure how "mobile tabs" are going to work. They'd have to scroll by fairly quickly to show everything, or do some sort of innovative thing with repeated chords/notes.

this seems fun. seems innovative, (as innovative as one can be with an interactive musical game) and it seems promising. lets hope it pulls through but i think it will.

is this backwards compatible? I'd hate to lose my rather large dlc library. Or are my current instruments "forward compatible"? What about a harmony engine (ie. Beatles: RB), So many questions.

Again, there goes my money. But it's still worth it

that's pretty cool, too bad my brother has already transferred to a real guitar and I lack a sense of rhythm. But still, pretty cool.
