Rumor of the morning: One of the first-to-be-announced titles for Nintendo's 3D handheld the Nintendo 3DS will be a version of classic game Animal Crossing to be a launch title for the system. Word is, Nintendo's been showing off the title to developers as a proof of concept for the 3DS.
This seems like a pretty safe bet. The Animal Crossing franchise sells no matter what, and a quicky port to the new device seems likely to spur interest. Animal Crossing is the perfect title for the 3DS-- If you want to spend all day looking into a a little world, why not have it be in 3D? -- but let's hope Nintendo does something truly innovative and interesting with the title. That series has been coasting for a long time, and a couple new bells and whistles isn't enough... now a full-on 3D re-vamped, that would be awesome.

Nintendo needs to change it's game up if they want to change their tarnished image. 3DS sounds like an amazing system with unimaginable potential but when I hear about Animal Crossing being a primary launch title, it makes me want to hurl.
Throw down some Zelda 3DS, as mentioned earlier, a 2d side-scroller Metroid, heck, get Square Enix to make a Secret of Evermore 2, WORK with 3rd parties!! Get the hand on Sony by beefing up their mature content with an exclusive GTA for the 3DS.
My god Nintendo you could have it all but your main focus on this family, childish look is killing your image to the gamers. Sure you could still keep the brain ages and animal crossing for that crowd, but d@mn it sure would be nice to see Ninty dominate like the SNES days.

I think this is one of those titles they don't need to bother announcing, everyone should already expect some Crossing love on the 3DS, seems like a no-brainer.
Safe to say it'll be in my collection whenever i get my hands on a 3ds. :D

I'm all for this. Animal Crossing is one of those series I can't help but love. I just hope there is more put into the game, unlike City Folk which just added a stupid city. (The city idea is a great one, but they did a lousy job with it in my opinion.)
I know there is very little on the system, but the 3DS is sounding more and more interesting. Now that there is a rumor of a new Animal Crossing for it, I'm getting pumped!
