Entertainment Tonight was able to go behind the scenes of the upcoming Thor movie. What they got, was a wealth of on-set footage, a physical look (not just leaked concept art) at Chris Hemsworth in his Thor costume, Anthony Hopkins looking all badass as an eye-patch-sporting Odin, and interviews with star Chris Hemsworth, co-star Natalie Portman, and director Kenneth Branagh.
They've really lifted the veil on this film, and if you're anticipating Marvel's Avengers crossover films, then you definitely need to give this video a look.
Among the interview tidbits, which include details on the rigorous training regimen that was demanded of him, Hemsworth describes the emotional journey of his character:
"Thor starts out as a pretty brash, cocky kind of character," explains Chris of the god of thunder. "Odin's become older and wiser [and] he realizes that there's a better way of doing things, and so that's also the challenge for him in trying to discipline Thor for the actions he's taking. … [He] sends Thor away to get some humility."
Finally seeing some footage of the movie really drives home the irony that the newcomer Hemsworth has found himself the star of this major film, while established stars like Natalie Portman and a legend like Anthony Hopkins are his supporting cast. Hemsworth himself is an untested commodity, but his co-stars are solid. This wasn't a film that inspired confidence on paper, but it seems to translate well, based on what we're being shown.
Thor is set to hit theaters May 6, 2011. Its Avengers companion film Captain America: The First Avenger will follow on July 22, 2011.
