Newspaper The USA Today has an early look at Rock Band 3, and yes, the game does include a two octave, 25-key keyboard as well as three-part harmonies and a newly announed "pro" guitar described as a "full-sized, fully functional Fender guitar." The keyboard and harmonies means Rock Band 3 will allow up to seven players to jam at once. Amazing.
The keyboard peripheral is more like a keytar than a piano, so you can play it standing up. Check it out in action in this video from USA Today.
Other improvment coming to Rock Band 3 include:
- Pro Mode: This more difficult mode will come closer to teaching you how to play guitar, keyboard and drums through more realistic peripherals and different notations. The drum kit will have extra cymbals to add, and Fender is working on a fully functional guitar that will play Rock Band 3, although there are no pictures of the device. The overall goal is to teach you to really play music, so if you memorize a pattern on Rock Band 3's pro keyboard, it's the actual notes that you can play on your family's upright.
- Re-tooled story mode: The idea is to get you closer to the action of your band.
- Drop-in Gameplay: You're recognize this from Guitar Hero's last game. Players can step in and out of songs at will.
