Review: Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11: "Wii Version Improved, 360 and PS3 Less So"

Summer's upon us, and that means that EA has kicked off the new sports year with its first 2011 title, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11. Although Sony has confirmed that the PS3 version of Tiger 11 will support PlayStation Move when the new motion controller launches, Scott Alan Marriott suggests that you go with the Wii version, which builds upon the excellent foundation established in last year's groundbreaking title. Here's a sampling of one standout from the Wii game, first-person golfing:

"Though the framework from last year's excellent game remains intact, PGA Tour 11's play mechanics have been fine tuned. First and foremost is the option to play the game from a first-person perspective, called True View, allowing you to see each of the 28 included courses as if you were actually good (or wealthy) enough to compete there. Before each swing, you can view the ball and selected club from a top-down perspective. As you grip the Wii remote, you'll adjust your wrists in real time to position the club's head before implementing your swing."

If you're not into waggle, a taste of the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions:

"PGA Tour 11 is essentially the same game you've enjoyed for the past few years with a few relatively minor enhancements. Sure, there are the requisite new modes and tweaks you expect with each annual release, but the play mechanics, presentation, and "feel" of the game haven't taken a significant leap forward. The game's most glaring fault is that it doesn't do enough to distinguish itself from the mechanically superior Wii version, apart from the analog-based swing system. The technology behind the platforms could not be more disparate, yet there's really only one area where the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions outshine the "lesser" console: online play. Only now there's an annoying restriction attached to it."
