DJ Hero

Activision has officially announced DJ Hero 2. While not exactly a well-kept secret, we have learned a ton of details about the upcoming game.  Announced artists include Dr. Dre, The Chemical Brothers, Kanye West, Metallica, Lady Gaga, Rihanna and over 85 others, and the game will support a microphone so you can add vocals to the mix.

DJ Hero 2 will also feature new multiplayer modes, including a DJ Battle mode, as well as the jump-in-and-play Party mode that you know and love from the last Guitar Hero game. It will be released in two versions: A deluxe kit that includes two turntables and a microphone, and the basic, one turntable and no microphone edition.

To celebrate the announcement, DJ Hero owners will have the opportunity to download a mix from DJ Hero 2 as downloadable content. The mix features Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance” mixed with Deadmau5’s “Ghosts ‘n’ Stuff.” The mix will be available for free from June 8-14 on Xbox Live and the PlayStation store.

“We’re improving upon all the gameplay elements from DJ Hero that gamers loved with the all-new freestyle gameplay and a host of new multiplayer game modes,” said Jamie Jackson, Creative Director, FreeStyleGames. “But we’re not stopping there either as the award-winning soundtrack is getting bigger songs from hotter artists that our talented crew of DJ’s is spinning into hits that fit the gameplay flawlessly.”

DJ Hero 2 is slated for release in the fall on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii.

oh god, sorry Activision, but you suckered me into the first DJ Hero and while I can't say it was bad, It certainly lacked support in the form of new songs and DLC. now you expect me to buy another because some crappy sellout bands are in it?

I don't see any significant gameplay changes so far and the only positive thing I see about the sequel is the inclusion of Deadmau5.

I don't think we needed a second game, just more DLC.

While the added functionality sounds great, being that if you're going to mix two tracks together, you really do need to have two turntables, I wonder what the peripheral will look like this time around in the basic packaging considering the cross fader...

Will it appear on the peripheral in a new way? Will the peripheral be the same we saw last year, with the ability of either cross fader to be used if you already have the first? Will it disappear completely to allow the first peripheral to control the mixing of the tracks?

This is a step in the right direction to truly feel in control of mixing two tracks like a DJ, but I'm still looking for more when it comes to incorporating hip-hop into it--I think its sad that a genre of music that began with the turntables has to be better incorporated into a video game some 30 years later, quite honestly.

Speaking of hip-hop and DJ games, is there any news whatsoever on Scratch: The Ultimate DJ??? I saw it during E3 09 and was excited for it as its track selection and gameplay mechanics appealed to me more than the track selection and gameplay mechanics for DJ Hero.
