Several leaks later, Apple has come clean about their next iPhone, which Apple CEO Steve Jobs told an audience in San Francisco would represent the biggest leap since the original iPhone.
Here are the major new features in the new iPhone, dubbed iPhone 4:
- Brand-new design, with glass on the front and back and steel around the sides.
- 24% thinner than the iPhone 3GS -- 9.3MM.
- New external buttons to mute, turn volume up and down, sleep/wake button.
- Standard headphone jack and second mic for noise cancellation.
- New display capable of 326 ppi, which equates to, as Jobs puts it, "really sharp text."
- Features the Apple A4 chip, the same powerful chip powering the iPad.
- Improved battery life, getting users 40% more talk time (up to seven hours), six hours of 3G browsing, 10 hours of Wi-Fi browsing, 10 hours of video, 40 hours of music, 300 hours of standby.
- Includes a gyroscope, allowing for pitch roll and yaw movement, and works with the accelerometer to provide a six degrees of complete movement for the device.
- Five-megapixel camera with back-lit sensor, 5x digital zoom, LED flash.
- High-definition video capture -- it's capable of capturing 720p video at 30 frames-per-second.
- iMovie. Looks like a tiny version of iMovie on Mac, including transitions, layering music from your iPad library, incorporate other movies and videos on the iPhone. Available for $4.99.
- iPhone OS 4 -- now renamed iOS 4 -- is included on the phone, with the previously announced multi-tasking, threaded e-mail conversations, folders.
- Bing is now an option for search, though Google will remain the default.
- iBooks comes to iPhone and you can sync books across iDevices for free.
- FaceTime, aka iChat for iPhone, is included -- but it requries Wi-Fi.
Stay tuned as more is announced!

I think it's funny how people are bashing this phone. If they took some time to research they'd realize a few things:
1. Verizon and Sprint DECLINED the offer for the exclusive contract for the iPhone when it was first being released. This being because they thought it'd fail. So they went to AT&T, and they jumped on it cause they were doing bad ever since Cingular took over (which now they're out of the picture and doing good).
2. Apple doesn't think they were the first to make these features or anything, but they did do it better.
3. Apple products only break 99% when a user error is made. The other 1% is things like motherboard problems on the iPhone 3GS. But with Apple Care or the 1 year warranty, you get a BRAND NEW one for FREE. Not a refurb like Sprint, Verizon and T-Mobile do.
People just don't research and then try and yell and scream because they are jealous of it. HTML 5 will blow Flash out of the water...and I can't wait! Gratz people for being mindless Google/Bing Zombies. :)

Bing is now an optional search engine? lol
Talk about irony right? :)

umm, this all all great but without unlimited data, who gives a crap. According to AT&T's magical data usage calcualtor, just by downloading a few apps a day, sending and receiving a few emails (which, face it, our mail boxes are constantly getting junk), surfing the web, and other daily tasks, you will use close to 4GB of data which is $45!!! So, the lesson here is... AT&T will officially die now that they have become complete retards! ANDROID!!!

Now everyone just has to wait until the end of the year and they will get ready to sell the iphone 4gs. HTC EVO 4G still owns any iphone

Another Apple fail. Way to go Jobs.

I think apple just needs to be less exclusive with AT&T

Hmm... Dual microphones for noise cancellation? Where have I heard that before? Hmm..... Oh Yeah!
(holds up the clearly superior Nexus One) Now I know where Apple farmed their ideas for the iPhone. Apple's run out of Ideas and now they must turn to Google and HTC (after suing them for infringing on their patents, of course) to get fresh Ideas for the iFail.

Hmm my current iPhone 3G is tad bit busted up so I guess it is time for a upgrade heh

Is this the same model that was found in a bar and later sold by unscrupulous means to some electronics reviewer?

I am a huge Apple fan HUGE Apple fan, but I recently ditched my 3GS for a Droid Incredible simply because of AT&T. Now I expected to be super jealous and regretful of my choice when this was announced and I kind of am.
But in all honesty after seeing all the things this has already happening on my Droid on a FAR superior network I'm not feeling so bad anymore. I still want one but I don't think I'll be going back to AT&T anytime soon for it.
