Red Faction: Armageddon "Emergency" Trailer »

The next Red Faction game will be called Red Faction: Armageddon and is due out in March 2011 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

According to THQ, the Ignition created shooter "moves beneath the surface of Mars as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As Darius Mason, players fight to save humanity from an even greater evil that threatens to extinguish all life on the planet."

Here's the official description of the game:

Half a century after the Red Faction resistance freed Mars, the red planet again becomes a battleground. Colonists struggle for survival in the underground mines after the surface is rendered uninhabitable. When Darius Mason, grandson of revolution heroes Alec Mason and Samanya, unknowingly releases a long-dormant evil, Armageddon is unleashed on Mars. As settlements are torn asunder, only Darius and the Red Faction can save mankind. The battle will take them to the core of the storm-blasted planet through ice caves and lava flows until they are face to face against the unspeakable threat. Red Faction: Armageddon expands on the critically acclaimed, best-selling franchise with new, groundbreaking challenges. You are humanity's last hope for survival.

So, what do you think? Interesting?

Umm... I'm going to step back and watch this one. The trailer makes it seem like an O.K. story, but not a big place to move around in. They could bring back tunnel digging, but it still seems like underground would be really small. This game is either a hit or miss, and it's about dead even at the moment. But one trailer can't determine a game's quality, so we've got to wait. The first one was under the radar big time and hopefully this one gets much more coverage. They should have brought back Alec and had him on some adventure to do something. Alec wasn't that bad of a character.

    Awwww maaann!!

What did they do to my RF:G?!?
I CRINGED when the trailer showed some sort of "monster alien", that came off as VERY reminiscent of the Dead Space Necromorphs.
Its like they've taken the game in an entirely new direction - towards a survival horror shooter or something. Which makes it SOO cliche!!

It'd probably do well as a standalone game, but as a sequel, and in ESSENCE of the Red Faction Guerilla game..idk..
..Its like playing a Gears of War game with the story set during the Pendulum Wars..
..Then the sequel is set towards the end of that war..and midway through the game, Emergence Day arrives with all of the Locust popping up..Its soo..randomly divergent from the original situation. Kindof like a.."WTF!?".

Idk..I just hope we get more intel on this game (in the form of gameplay trailers)..and that RF:A performs & does well..

Hmm...kinda seems like they're giving it a survival-horror twist, which could break the entire franchise apart. The First RF had a few (very few) scary moments in it towards the end, with (spoiler alert!!) the strange alien/human hybrids. Those hybrids disappeared, and didnt return in the second or third installments. Now apparently the Red Faction is fighting against an army of some sort of monster/alien things? It's an interesting turn. I plan on buying this game, but liking it may be an entirely different story...

If Volition knows whats good they'll keep or hopefully upgrade the building destruction. And if they add in the world destruction principles from Geomod 1 then the game would be atleast twice as replayable.

They made it look like a horror shooter. and wheres the sledge hammer? it seemed like you were underground and all the building were already destroyed from disaster. if everything is already destroyed doesn't tht take away from the game's point? if they let you destroy the cave walls, the game would become a bad version of Fracture....

While I'm pissed it's not guerrilla 2, I'm hopeful this is what Red Faction 2 should have been.

My problem with Red Faction Guerrilla was that there wasn't enough buildings and the world had very little too do. Taking it underground just sounds like there will be even less. I'll keep an eye on this, but I'm really not interested. Sounds like a turn for the worse.

First, how are they going to do an open world game when all of it is underground??

Secondly, if they don't turn it back into a FPS I'm not playing it. I am sick and tired of 3rd person open world games and I don't want to play them anymore. Now, an FPS open world game is something I would play since it is something I haven't seen to often outside of Farcry 2 Borderlands, and Stalker.

This franchise started out as a FPS, let's bring it back.

They ruined what made the game fun, open world destruction which made the game so fun it sold 1.3 milliuon copies and they thought: "Hey lets make less money lets make a flop lets make a bad medicore lame linear dead space clone and take out everything that made the last game a hit"

I will NOT buy this game NEVER! The last game was soo fun being able to take apart and destroy all the buildings you want however you want was so fun. Why not instead of make this piece of sh#@ they just improve on what made the last one a blockbuster, why not a more developed mars with taller and bigger buildings to destrory, maybe even have a plane where you can fly it into a building right before you jump out with you jet pack throwing charges to make more damage!

But that would make too much sense, that would sell to well and violation obviously wants a financial flop, And they are making one! Congrats on ruining what could've been a continuation of the only good destructable sandbox,

Red Faction: Guerilla was an awesome game. It was just fun and crazy with the destruction engine they have and the multiplayer was AWESOME. Really looking forward to seeing what they're doing with this one.

sounds meh to me. i'm just hoping this doesn't suck as bad as red faction 2 did. i loved 3 just as much as 1. but this sounds like it could be 2 all over again.

it seems to me that its logical for them to stay on mars since that is the whole purpose. they fought through all of guerilla to free mars, why would they then just up and leave the planet. it also makes sense to keep the name because the story lines are connected. the main characters are even related. If the creators we're to change the name of a game every few installments then it would only serve to confuse people. final fantasy on the other hand is a completely unrelated story line in every game, and yet they all share chronological numbering like an elaborate sequel to the same story
