Cheats and Walkthroughs
I'm showing my age by saying it, but I distinctly remember when Doom II came out in 1994. I had a few classmates in homeroom who managed to install it on one of the computer lab PCs, and we used to blast through demons while one person kept an eye out to make sure no one caught us. But I digress. Id has seen fit to rework Doom II, much like it did back in 2006 with Doom Arcade. And as Kat Bailey reports, it's still a great game -- especially with the nine new levels -- but the 15 year-old level design is showing its age.
"As I’ve already said, the shooting holds up just fine; even the inability to jump or look up and down has a certain amount of charm. But beyond mowing down hordes of demons, it’s apparent that the level design just isn’t that great, particularly compared to the original. In that regard, the original might actually be a better investment at 400 Microsoft Points. Doom II has the benefit of largely lag-free multiplayer and a new episode though, so the choice is yours."
Feel free to share your Doom II memories below, but first, be sure to read her review!

I remember when my account at my High School's computer network was temporarily revoked for having installed Doom....oh memories

It's still fun. Note: it's probably showing its age because you're cheating and taking the fun out of it, since the left ss shows a blue skull key there, yet you conspicuously already have a blue skull key.

All the '90's Doom games run together for me since I haven't played them in so long, but fondest memories - the growling of monsters off in the distance (and that weird freaky noise the invisible demons made when you were near them - freaked me out), the shotgun, making chunks of demons w/ the rocket launcher...
Oh yeah, and MS-DOS, and the fact that the games I still have on MS-DOS cds like warcraft 2 won't play on my crappy emulator - vista combo.

I would love to have Doom 3 as a xbox live down-loadable. Just make it HD.

It's a 15 year old game, of course it's showing its age. The first Halo was out less than 10 years old and that's showing its age.
I remember playing Doom I & II to death. I thought I would play it forever. But I got into the Quake series, Tribes, Rainbow Six, Half-life, System Shock 2, Deus Ex, Battlefield 1942, Call of Duty and so forth. Sometimes you got to move on but the memories live on. Brings a tear to your eye. Now if you excuse me, I'm off to teabag someone I killed online.

The 15 year old level design means it's a classic. I also have good memories with the earlier Doom games.

I'm showing my age too, but when this came out I was three years out of highschool and I had a friend who was into computers who showed it to me. I played it a bit but wasn't really impressed at the time, but I also was not yet really into computers other than knowing some Dos and being able to install and work with windows 3.whatever it was as well as doing basic cofig file editing.
It wasn't until I became disabled in 2003 that I started getting into video games again. I used to love Atari, and had played various text-based adventures on my friends commodore 64, but by the time the NES came out I was more interested in Punk Rock.
Of course I now realize the signifigance of Id software and Doom I, II, and III, and I think without these games, We would not have a lot of the tech we take for granted today, not to mention all the games...

Why is it that old games on the 360 get reviewed but you never review virtual console games.
