E3 2010: DC Universe Online Hands-On Preview

Comic book loving MMO fans have been waiting a good long while (I’d say patiently, but I have a feeling that hasn’t generally been the case) for Sony Online Entertainment’s DC Universe Online, and at the end of the year, they’ll finally know if it was worth the wait. Our own Patrick “MMOs? More like Meh-Meh-NOs” Klepek was recently given some hands-on time with the superhero-charged title, and came away particularly impressed by what the game is doing to redefine MMO combat:

“There's no cool down, no waiting. It's not melee combat on the level of something like Devil May Cry, but in moments, I felt more engaged with the on-screen action than I've been with any other MMO. Outside of melee, DC Universe Online plays more like a traditional MMO -- yes, with cool downs and all. Simply having melee feel dynamic and real-time, however, went a long way with me.”

You can find out plenty more about the game in Patrick’s full hands-on preview of DC Universe Online.

I like that you can create your own character and fight with Superman or Lex Luthor, but I'm scared that the MMO movement will feel weird when fighting other people. I've never played an MMO game before so I don't have any idea how it works. Does any have real expirience with MMO games and if so, do you think this is going to be a good game?

This all looks really cool; does anyone know if there's a monthly subscription? I love MMOs but I hate having to pay month after month after I've already purchased the stupid game.

What do you mean by, Superman should be a Legendary Unlockable? He is only gonna be a NPC in this game, it is a MMO, not a normal console game!

Marvel should do one, and then they should unite the two universes. That will create extraordinary experience.

I wonder how they did Superman since he invulnerable to damage ( except Kryptonite). It would be best if they have him as a Legendary Unlockable.
