Activision To Unveil Goldeneye Remake At E3?

More fuel has been thrown on the rumor fire that’s been raging since last year that suggests Activision is working on a Nintendo Wii and DS remake of the Nintendo 64 classic GoldenEye: 007.

Today’s log-o-chatter comes via a source close to Activision who told Eurogamer Activision plans to finally officially reveal the long suspected remake during E3 2010. The game is supposedly being co-developed by n-Space (Toy Story 3) and Eurocom, who worked on the N64 version of The World is Not Enough, and it's expected to be released in November.

The GoldenEye remake talk started up again back in April when Activision registered the domain GoldenEyegame.com. The domain Bloodstonegame.com, which just so happened to be the leaked name of the Bond-based driving game expected to be in development at Bizarre Creations, was also registered.

Then yesterday, various images of concept covers for the GoldenEye game popped up online via GoNintendo. The images reportedly accompanied a survey about the game. Most interesting though is the fact that last October, a former Eurocom staffer’s CV found its way online, and it included a listing for “GoldenEye 2010” for Wii. Clearly, all of these pieces are pointing quite strongly to the game being a go, but until Activision decides to officially announce it, consider all of this just spirited speculation.

Activision hasn't commented about the photos or any of these rumors, but I dropped them a line in case they're feeling feisty, so I'll let you know if I hear anything.

Thank you for the update, Jake! [Even though this may all be just "spirited speculation"]
    You're awesome. =)
    ----------
Hmmm..Sucks that it'll only be on the Wii (& DS, which I'm not counting).

Activision owns the rights to 007, while Microsoft owns Rare - the original developers who created the game.
So this should AT LEAST be on the Wii AND the 360, if not COMPLETELY MULTI-PLATFORM.
[Each platform's version being designed from the ground up, instead of being ported]

Really wish Rare & Activision were the ones that worked (collaborated) on this remake, somewhat as a labor of love.
Rare made the game, while Activision has experience with the CoD series, so for GoldenEye to get that "CoD treatment" (along the lines of MW2, minus the glitchfare) for it's remake, would be awesome.

[And OMG..that link to Go Nintendo, showing the GOLD Pro controller, Uzi holder for the Wiimotes, & variations on the potential cover just makes me want the game to come out 3x MORE!!!]
    ---------
The only notable games that Eurocom did were:
+ Duke Nukems: Duke Nukem 64 & Duke Nukem: Zero Hour [N64]
+ Mortal Kombats: Mortal Kombat 3 [PS & Saturn], Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 [PS & Saturn], Mortal Kombat 4 [N64, PS, & PC], & Mortal Kombat Gold [Dreamcast]
+ Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo [PC]
    + James Bond 007: Nightfire
    + Dead Space: Extraction

And the only thing I remember playing on ^that^ list is the last one - DSE.

While n-Space's expertise solely lies with the [Nintendo] DS:
+ Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (2007)
+ Call of Duty: World at War (2008)
+ Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Mobilized (2009)
+ Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron (2009)
    ----------
    So..I don't know..
..I'm really skeptical of how this game will do (with only Nightfire & DSE as Eurocom's MAIN experience), but I'm REALLY rooting for it to do well; and I hope it goes multi-platform, instead of being Wii-exclusive.
The possibility that it'll come out in November might prove to be debilitating for it though..since CoD: Black Ops will be coming out in November too..which will cast this game in Black Ops' shadow, in terms of sales.
I just hope, that if the remake DOES come out, that it does really well, not only in terms of the game's quality, but in sales TOO.
GoldenEye 007 was the grandfather of (console) shooters (as we know them today), so it deserves the BEST TREATMENT that can be given to it.

    Ahhhh, CAN'T WAIT!!!

HAHA. This is gonna be on the wii. Thats the worst idea ever. I understand that the game was on the nintendo but thats when Nintendo systems had real controllers. They need to put this on ps3 and xbox 360 and pc if they wanna see real sales because if they throw this incredible game on a not so incredible system its not gonna sale and there gonna wonder what happened.

They need to stop slapping a coat of paint on these old titles and actually do more of a reboot /remake with new controls and ai and graphics. I have perfect dark and though it was fun for a nostalgic romp but got boring.

With the long list of terrible bond games released after goldeneye, they finally decided to just remake it. Ok they all weren't bad (agent under fire, nightfire, and everything or nothing were decent).

However, as awesome at goldeneye was on n64 they cannot recreate that phenomenon. Kids have CoD and halo fever now and will look at goldeneye as a step back. Perfect Dark on the 360 arcade is awesome and goldeneye was awesome too, but a remake not a time machine. I'll probably never have that awesome experience again of having a ton of friends over playing 4 player split screen with the losers having to pass the controller.

Hasn't anyone ever thought that they put consideration into the fact shooters have evolved ? A remake doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be bad.

What I'm hoping for is that they do a bond shooter that revolutionizes what shoots could do, just like how goldeneye did. Granted there's not too much more you can do that hasn't come out, but that doesn't mean the effort isn't being put into trying to make this stand out.

Goldeneye was the best Bond movie with the best video game tie in of all time, that happened to be one of the best shooters of all time. Some things are better left to our memories...

Why are the even re-making it (assuming it's true)? Goldeneye is one of those games that's timeless. It doesn't need any "adjustment" or "upgrading"

I wouldn't mind playing on XBL Arcade because I can not play it on the N64 anymore. I just can't do one thumbstick anymore.

I would love Goldeneye on the XBLA. People need to relax, it's not going to be a $60 game so who cares if it's a few generations old. For $10 it would be awesome.

I have to agree with everyone on here. You can't remake certain games, and GoldenEye is one of those games. Normally when they remake games from back in the day, it's usually a game from a genre we haven't seen in a while, like a fighting game or a 2D side scroller, you know games we don't see too often with next gen systems. But shooting games are pretty much the most popular genre in games, so to remake a game like Golden eye in a world of shooters, that game would have to be Halo or Modern Warfare calibur to even hang with the big name titles now. I would hate to see a great game for it's time like GoldenEye get dragged through the mud.
