Nintendo announced it is cutting the price of the Nintendo DSi, but before you rush over to your local Game Nutz to pick up a half dozen handhelds, it's only in Japan for now. From June 19, the price of DSi model will be lowered to 15,000 yen ($165) from 18,900 yen, while the DSi LL model will be cut to 18,000 yen from 20,000 yen.
All of this seems like a lead-up to the official unveiling of the semi-mysterious Nintendo 3DS at E3 this year. Nintendo will no doubt be positioning the 3D enabled portable as their flagship model, so I predict the Nintendo 3DS will retail at the current price of the Nintendo DSi, where the older models will go down in price by a comparable amount to the Japanese price-cut.
It all should become clear at E3, so keep your channels and internets tuned to G4, where we'll be bringing you everything E3 2010, beginning on June 15.
