I am a Mario super-fan, I'm not ashamed to admit it. That 's why I'm on this week's episode of Feedback, wherein we discuss Super Mario Galaxy 2, the plumber bros.' latest adventure in space/time. Adam, Abbie, Patrick, and special guest Morgan Webb are the other power stars on the panel, and they blow my mind when they tell me that the second player can also collect purple coins, making that whole endeavor significantly easier. Man, I wish I had friends.

Feedback -- Super Mario Galaxy 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops, Killzone 3 »

Elsewhere in this video program for the Internet:

  • Adam and I both saw Call of Duty: Black Ops in action, and Treyarch's first foot forward is an impressive one. You'll see what we saw at E3 -- until then, our verbalized impressions will have to suffice.
  • Another thing you'll see at E3 that I've already seen: Killzone 3. The second one didn't exactly win me over, but I'm actually looking forward to part 3. The shooting feels better, and it's got snow!
  • Everyone on the panel really, really, really wants Beyond Good & Evil 2 to come out, but are we setting ourselves up for disappointment? We address this week's cancellation rumors and keep hope alive.
  • Patrick played the new Harry Potter game, Deathly Hallows, Part 1, and has some reservations about Stupify being a rocket launcher.
  • Rockstar says they're not going to E3. We say, "Have you ever been at E3?"
  • Looks like David Cage is already casting for his next game. It won't be Heavy Rain 2, which means it's time to speculate on what it actually is! Probably something French.

Feedback: Coming up with amazing ideas and forgetting to follow through on them since 2009.

(Red Dead Redemption -- the game with horses that you can't stab in eye while naked -- is next week, partners.)

Another awesome Feedback. Always look forward to this on wed. Also Morgan Webb should be on the show more, both Abbie and her are very upbeat :) Keep it up everyone on the show is great and Patrick should wear a wizard hat to go along with the Epic win hair next week lol

Abbie your thumbs are just fine!

I really like Galaxy's charm, and I don't think it's just down to that ol' Mario nostalgia. Maybe when I'm a few years older and a bit more cynical I'll find Mario's style tiring, but right now I'm fine with it.

That said, if someone out there could find a way to take the tight control, imagination and brilliant level design and put it in even a slightly more mature shell I'd certainly welcome it. I could even imagine a setting similar to that of Beyond Good & Evil.

Mass Effect 2 had a big multi-form boss because everyone bitches like all hell when they try to do something else, like they did in Mass Effect.

As for Gears 2's ending, I've never understood the complaint about using the hammer of dawn on the giant lambant monster. It was simply a moment where, rather than making it a cutscene, they gave the player control of what was a cool moment. I think handing moments like that over to the player to experience (without lame-ass button prompts, no less) rather than simply watch is to be applauded, rather than bitched about just because it wasn't a challenge.

Cod Black Ops needs napalm and needs the map to have changes affected by the battle in both single player and multiplayer. i don't know why there isn't a game like this yet. i mean Battlefield band company 2 u can at least damage buildings but if i call in a mortar strike and create a big crater i want to dig into that crater for cover. until the round is over or whatever but you get the idea. We should call it adaptable mapping? Is the issue the fact that the game map would have to be uploaded to all the other players? it can't be that hard. When you shoot a vehicle and blow it up it does for everyone why cant a hole get created or a building get a hole blown through the wall?

I have to agree with Adam on the frantic ending being the most satasfying type of ending. For me the most memorable game ending was in the original Halo. Halo is about to explode and driving through hundreds of enemies fighting each other. There was no needed boss fight and I was very satasfied with it.

I lol'd at Adams wife comment and I think Abbie does not have Megan Fox thumbs. I hope Morgan gets her own web show on the g4 site soon. Maybe she can do Webbalert for g4?

The 4-way reaction to the realization of Mario's multiplayer is the funniest thing I've seen on feedback in a while. Feedback is the best.

If anyone at G4 reads these posts please take note:this was a fantastic episode of Feedback (as per usual) but...
PLEASE, never again let Morgan Webb take part in another episode of Feedback. She didn't contribute anything constructive to the conversation. She just complained about Mario games for that segment and never really engaged the other member of the panel about their arguments for why they liked/disliked certain games. Sterling McGarvey (sorry if I misspelled his surname) add so much more to the show than Morgan. I like his points of view on gaming and I look forward to each week, just in case he is on. Adam, you always want a certain level of discourse on forums/posts from your audience, and what do we get from Morgan?

I will tune in to the television episode of Feedback simply because the panel are fabulous and G4 always does a stellar job of coverage. Good luck for the week long coverage.

To the guy who said that the wait for beyond good and evil 2 has been terrible obviously is not a fan of Half Life! It has been what 3 years since episode 2, and what 7 years between HL and HL2!

    On "Good game endings":
In my opinion a good game ending gives you closure and makes you feel like you actually did something significant, although it doesn't necessarily bring the whole story to a close (see "cool that bad guy is dead finally the world is saved... wait... who is that?"[if done well]) Also, as you said, it doesn't break away from the style of the rest of the game.
If the end must have a boss battle, which it doesn't, that boss must follow the rules of any good boss battle but on a grander scale. It must NOT seem like it doesn't fit into the story (given). It must make you use whatever skill the rest of the level has been making you practice (or in this case whatever skills you learned thought the game). It must progress the story in some way. And, unless it is supposed to be a recurring boss battle (which I don't really care for), the boss's death must matter, nothing is more annoying than taking a significant chunk of your time and wasting it on an insignificant pawn in the big bad guys plan (unless that insignificant pawn has some connection with the main character). Also, in my opinion, the big orange balls on the bosses screaming "SHOOT HERE!!!!1!!" makes the fight a little too obvious and unrewarding since, while there is challenge in the fight, there really isn't any challenge in finding what to do (maybe add a journal note on how to kill the monster before hand or have the character learn about the monster and learn it's weak-points before hand)

Once again sorry for the long post this is a bad habit of mine.

1-Loved having Morgan on the show... i liked the chemistry, and the spread of opinion. Maybe you guys could try putting Kevin on the show if he's not to busy with AOTS (and I dont know if he plays as much as you guys)

2- I second the motion to compare Abbie's thumbs to the rest of the crew

3- Idea for Morgan's desire of better graphics: Someone should try and take the idea that Blur had for cart racers, and apply it to platformers.... although i dont know how big that demographic would be

4- make sure to warn about spoiler alerts for Red Dead on the next show, I'm not quite done with it, but i seem to be taking double the time for everything for no aparent reason (i'm on 20 hours but only 50% done)

5- I used to play the harry potter games, but this new adaptation sounds hilarious. I cant imagine a spell with a high firing rate like a machine gun... I need to see some footage.
