Level 5, the developer behind the wildly entertaining puzzle series Professor Layton, have announced they will be opening a new office in Santa Monica, California this September.
Level 5 International America will be the developer’s first western office, Silicon Era reports. But this isn’t the developer’s only expansion plan. Looks as though they plan to open an office in Europe sometime next year as well.
Having an office in North America will hopefully cut down on localization times, as this has been the main reason why it has taken so long for the Professor Layton games to be released outside of Japan. It should also benefit Level 5’s other franchises including the White Knight Chronicles and the soccer RPG Inazuma Eleven.

Opening a studio in Santa Monica, CA? This is awesome news considering the rash of office closures in the LA area over past couple of years. Hopefully this is a sign of good things to come for industry.

This is really big, because it means we'll get Level-5 games a lot faster than before if the team is heavily focused on translating and localizing the way Atlus and NIS have done.
America is way behind on Layton. :)

Not to mention Rouge Galaxy, Dark Cloud 2, and Dragonquest IX. They are a great development company.
