Ubisoft just announced a Wii game coming up called Dance on Broadway which utilizes the WiiMote to allow you to enjoy music and dancing from the greatest Broadway musicals of all time. Exciting, right? Right?
Because I know nothing about musical theater, I asked G4's New Media Manager Mike D'Alonzo what he thought of the game. Mike, for reasons too dark and complicated to understand, is actually a fan of musical theater, no joke. Our conversation went like this:
Me: When Dance on Broadway comes out on June 15, will you be buying it?
Mike: No.
Me: But... according to the press release, "Musical fans, along with their friends and families will discover an innovative dance title that gives them the thrill of performing original choreography to the songs they know and love from a variety of musicals across the past 30 years including Fame, Hairspray, Hair and more." Doesn't that sound like fun?
Mike: No.
Me: But you love all that dancing around and singing and stuff! What gives?
Mike: I'm 39. There's no situation in which I'll do that. I'm just not going to turn on my television, and put on a song from Hair and dance in front of my TV. Unless I was in a Serbian prison.
Me: What about if they had songs from Pippen?
Mike: Maybe.

Will I be reliving my younger days from my high school show choir by doing the Fosse choreography to "Steam Heat" from the Pajama Game in front of my Wii and my friends and family? No. This game is bound to have Boogie-like control scheme failure. I think this material would work much better in a karaoke style game.

this will be fabulous!!!! :D i cant wait, this will be so much fun, i cant wait! video games and musical theatre are two of my favorite things, putting them together is going to be AMAZING!!! :D

I think this is just Ubisoft trying to further cash in on the (albeit baffling to me) success of Just Dance.

this seems like a clash of two worlds that dont belong together, but I could be wrong. I can think of a demographic that this could be perfect for but I dont want to seem insensitive by out right saying it.
