The game industry is re-thinking the driving game a bit. Split/Second came out last week, and Blur is son shelves today. Both offer  vehicular combat implements from weapon pick-ups or environmental triggers.combining more realistic driving simulators with the kind of no-holds-barred wackiness that makes Mario Kart such a classice game -- but which game will suit your tastes best? Check out our side-by-side comparison video to get an idea of which to purchase:

I think that Blur looks like a better game but they both seem sort of suckish just because im more into the simulation games like NFS Shift & Dirt 2.

Split/Second ftw. But the driver in that video sucks. He waited almost the entire race to use the red powerup, then he wrecks himself on the tower he destroyed. Use a couple blue's on the first lap or two and save a the read for the final lap.

blur seems like a hardcore kids game and split second simply reminds me of the burnout series which is could if i had to choice it would be neither waste of money for sure

Blur is fun online, even if you have trouble winning, you still get buckets of fans by blasting other cars with powerups. I tried S/S online and apparently you have to unlock the cars in single player first because as soon as the races start, everyone would blast past me and I wouldnt see another car for the entire race. Super boring.

Blur has up to 20 online players at a time. That's a big win over Splt Second.

Blur is alot better i mean.. look at the comparison and all the action on blur's side, then oh no.. a road caught on fire on split seconds side.. and he runs into an invisible wall.. exciting..

Played both demos. Didn't like either one of them too much, but I liked the way Blur handled a lot better. I'd trade them both in for a PGR5 or RalliSport Challenge 3 without thinking twice about it.
RSC 2 was so damn good and nothing has come remotely close since.

They both look about even to me. I rather stick with sim racers but both of these games look better than the garbage EA puts out every year in the need for speed series. And each release saying " Look! We have a gimmick! We're different this year, we promise!". Good to see some variety in the genre.

Oh and @bolliver: grid did deserve the 5/5. The seasons were too short and a few small glitches but over all a good game to give Forza and GT a run for its money.

I take blur over split second any day... I bought and I love it. The 3/5 rating shocks me I would say a 4/5 for sure. But then I have to remember these are the same people that gave grid a 5/5 and it was no 5.

I can't really explain why, and I'm pretty sure that not every track layout and surrounding will be identical to the one in the video, but Blur does not really make me feel immersed in what's going on in the game.

It could be that I've only played the demo for Split/Second, but I'd lean more toward Split/Second if I were to purchase either of the two right now. In fact, with MNR out, I don't think I'd ever get around to Blur quite honestly.
