I don’t know about you, but when I’m tearing dudes apart with my bare hands in a God of War game, I can’t help but thinking what it would be like to be able to read about the madness unfolding around me, instead of actually interacting with it.
Thankfully, the original God of War has been turned into a full-on novelization, and the result is the new “official novel of the thrilling video game,” which slashes its way onto shelves today. The novel was announced last year, and was expected to come out before the release of God of War III, but clearly that didn’t happen.
No matter. If you’ve been longing for even deeper insight into the emotionally and philosophically tortured soul of Kratos, this book seems to have you covered. You can read an excerpt right here.
Anyone plan to pick up the God of War novel?

What I mean by exceptions are books that hold their own and can tell a story without needing to bog it down for 100+ pages of filler. As for actual examples of what I consider to be exceptional books based on games my immediate thought is of the StarCraft novelizations, WoW's Arthas: Rise of the Lich King, and the Halo series of books. Also worth checking out are some of the comics based on Resident Evil, Gears of War, and Street Fighter.
Sorry for the separate post but for one reason or another I can never respond to a reply.

Sorry for the misspell.
It's Matthew Stover or he also goes by Matthew Woodring Stover for anyone wanting to do a little research.

If you like this novel you should all pick up the authors other work.
Mathew Stover is one of the best writers I've ever come across but is not very well known.
If you read anything else by him you must at least try Heroes Die. It's one of the best novels I've ever read and one that I think should be more well known to the public.
If you are into Star Wars he has also written several novels about the Star Wars Universe.

Much like Star Wars take on zombies in Death Troopers this is a title I'll be waiting to hit the discount bin...so given my bookstores typical customer base should be in about three months.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of the God of War series but apart from a few exceptions most novels based on video games that themselves were not based on an existing franchise tend to fizzle. I hope this is one of those exceptions if for no other reason than to encourage some of the younger gamers to put down the controller and pick up a book from time to time.

This could either go really good
they take advantage of the rich world of Greek mythology and the character Kratos.
Or it could be really bad
Plot of the video game, paced out badly with filler.
I really hope it is the first.

I am definitely going to pick this up. I read that excerpt and was very surprised how well it was written. I am amazed how much they can do with a game so focused on brain-less action
