Yup, folks, the cinematic sci-fi action game, Mass Effect, is on its way towards becoming a Hollywood cinematic sci-fi action movie. Legendary Pictures acquired the feature film rights to the Mass Effect franchise and is already in discussions with the screenwriter of I Am Legend and Thor to pen the screenplay. But wait, there are even bigger names jumping in on this one.
According to the announcement, the BioWare Doctors/co-founders, Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk, as well as Mass Effect executive producer, Casey Hudson, will serve as executive producers for the movie alongside film veterans Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni and Avi and Ari Arad. You may recognize those last two names as the gents working on the film adaptations of Uncharted, Infamous and Lost Planet.
"At BioWare, we’ve always thought of Mass Effect as having the depth, emotion and plot twists perfectly suited for an adaptation to a motion picture," said Casey Hudson. "With Legendary and Avi and Ari Arad attached, we believe that the Mass Effect movie will be an extraordinary entertainment event that realizes our vision for the franchise and thrills fans."
Granted, it's going to be a while before we see ANYTHING about the Mass Effect movie, if it ever happens, though it's already got us tickled. Will Commander Shepherd be male or female? Better yet, will he/she be renegade or paragon?? At least we know who will play Miranda. What are your thoughts, ME fans?

i am really concerened how they will do it because it is a choice drive game. not a linear story like uncharted or halo.

If the directors truly want to be true to the franchise, they should film scenes with both a Paragon and a Renegade basis. Then, for the theatrical release, they edit the scenes together to what would reach the largest audience. For the DVD releases, release a Renegade and a Paragon edition, each with tie-in content to the videogame (I know Mass Effect 3 will be out long before any movie, but I'd think they might have a new trilogy in the same universe underway by then). Finally, the Bluray edition will allow users to edit their own version of the movie by selecting Renegade and Paragon scenes at their pleasure.

Its funny how everyone wants Matthew Fox because he looks like the default Sheppard, but I have two Sheppard's look like Brothers of Barrack Obama. NOTE I created my characters months before ever knowing who B. Obama was.

Bioware should get info on all the decisions made with imported ME2 characters and make the most common choices the movie ones

So who will be Miranda?
Yvonne Strahovski: The voice and Face
or
Jillian Murray: The Bod and da Ass.

i say, when it comes down to the choices... let the fans decide. Decide weither Sheperd should be male/ female; good/ bad; have botics or not. the thing that everyone love about this game is CHOICE. And i say let the fans choose Sheperd's fate as they have in the game.
As for M.E. Redemption, make it something like Star Wars: The Clone Wars, only a lot better.

There are two ways this can work.
1. base the movie on everything before the 1st game, including Prothean ruins on mars, Mass Effect relay behind Pluto, the 1st contact wars, the Skylian Blitz, the Morning war, The Krogan Rebellion, the Rachni War.
2. while ME is a game of choice the end result is mostly the same.
Regardless if they go with a movie based on the 1st game it would be hard to make without explanations of the science and the universe so I think it would have to start before the 1st game.

What? How can you make a movie based on Mass Effect? The whole game is based on play choice. The movie will take all that way.

...well I'm a fan of the series and a pessimist so....
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Can't wait to see Commander Shepard knocking people out with that right hook!! First line of the movie needs to be "I'm tired of your snide insinuations!!" WHACK!
Lost Planet movie will blow if they go by the story of the second one. That game should be called Lost Plot line because it makes no sense!
Uncharted, hell yea bring that on too.

A movie is a terrible idea. The only way that this could possible work is as a mini series on something like HBO or AMC.

half of my just had a massive heart attck when i saw the headline then the other half was wondering if it would suck lie most video game movie adaptations, but then i thought itf mass effect it cant fail cause it is absolutly perfect!!!!!!

No no no epic fail in the proposed making! We all know what happened with video game movies.

I can accutly see mass effect as a movie. when i was first told to pay mass effect my friend discribed it as a epic movie that you can control. it will be interesting tho to see who will do the voice (hopeing for cgi here) overs for the characters. all i know is that maybe live action will work better but cgi would look completely awsome but oh well. if this accutly works as a movie then maybe more movies might come out based on games that are accutly good. lets keep our fingers crossed.

hope they dont f"#$% it up and do the get freaky??? the posibelities are endles pliz no uva bolt or my eyes will bleed

The only way I can see this working is if they treat the movie as another part of the ME universe rather than just an adaptation i.e. have the movie reference in events in the game and likewise having future games possibly referencing events of the movie.

I am a HUGE fan of the Mass Effect story and STILL think this is, quite possibly, a terrible idea.
First of all, video game movies typically have terrible writing that belies the depth and complexity of the plot of a good game. Unless they got QUALITY writers to pen the adaptation, it will never rise above mediocre.
Secondly, movie producers tend to undervalue the "video game" audience. They tend to think we'll be sated by nothing but special effects, which is simply laughable.
Finally, we, as fans, will NEVER be happy with the casting of a video game movie for the same reason that fans of books are rarely happy with the movie adaptations of their favorite works. The Lord of the Rings trilogy was the notable exception... and it's an exception because the material was treated with respect, which has yet to happen with a video game movie.

I'm calling it: Commander Shepard won't be in this movie.
Mentioned maybe, but certainly never on or off-screen.
