Since Portal Went Free, Aperture Science Records 1.5 Million Downloads

Portal may have just been one of three amazing games included in the ambitious The Orange Box, but Portal 2 will be far more ambitious. If the rabid reception to Portal going free on Steam in celebration of going live on Mac is any indication, Portal 2's has the potential to be huge.

According to numbers released by Valve, gamers have downloaded Portal a whopping 1.5 million times since the game went free-to-download this month. The game remain free until May 24.

"Aperture Science, we've heard, is pleased," said Valve.

So am I.

I hope that I can download it without paying even after initially downloading it when it was free...Such a great game to play, even if it wasn't made to be a complete game...

Free is only good if there isn't a catch. And in this case it wasn't good enough to counter the problems with Steam.

Glad I paid for this. Now they are just giving it away for free. Awesome.

At the end (after GLaDOS is in pieces) are you free, dying or dead? I can't really imagine this game out of it's confined context. So I'm really curious as to whether or not you finally get to roam outside of the test chambers. Needless to say i loved the game so I'm very confident they will make only the right decisions...

It will be interesting to see if Valve can sell the full priced Portal 2 to the 1.5 million people who downloaded Portal 1 for free. Or will those who got the game for free, expect the sequel to be free as well?

Honestly I wanted to play Portal forever! After waiting 6 hours to download this game it was worth EVERY minute. I can't wait for PORTAL 2.... but might have to upgrade the computer to really enjoy it. I can't thank Valve enough for this awesome gift!

I absolutely loved Portal. However I am curious to see what they'll do with this one. They need to add gameplay elements to change thing up, but seeing as what they've already done, it'll tough to make ones as good as what they already have.

I don't know why the first one wasn't given more effort to make a full size game. The game concept is excellent and original. Why treat it like a test run and only give a short 4 hour game. Now it's like freeware for the sequel.

We've all seen full size games, built on a much smaller gameplay foundation.

    Looking forward to Portal 2.
