A sharp-eyed reader on the The Battlefront Community forums has a hackworthy program that allows him to peep behind the scenes and see the lobbies for games that are currently running through GameSpy. Recently, those include listings for Star Wars Battlefront 3 on the PS3, PC, Wii, and PSP. Does this mean we're finally going to get official word that the game is on the way?
The third entry in the popular Star Wars Battlefront series has flirted with an actual announcement for nearly two years now. As long ago as 2008, the game was "accidentally" listed on Amazon with a March 2009 release date for PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS and PSP. However, it was quickly yanked down. Then there was the artwork showing off an incredibly cool Sith version of Obi-Wan Kenobi.
That artwork was apparently from Free Radical Design, who was rumored to be working on the title. However, that came to an end when Free Radical had financial problems and shut down development. The game was rumored to have moved over to Pandemic, but they've also shuttered their doors. So what mystery developer is now working on the game?
Whoever it is, we're hoping there's a LucasArts announcement about the game at E3. It's been four years since Star Wars Battlefront 2 came out, and we've only had Renegade Squadron and Elite Squadron to feed the addiction, so it's about time.

Wasn't Free Radical integrated into Crytek? And is now known as Crytek UK? Technically, they're still around then. But they're working on Crysis 2, so, yeah...

I've been following and contributing to the LA SWBF3 forum for a couple years now and here's more info.
1. SG-17 is the one who found this info and he should be cited for doing so.
2. Slant 6 is currently rumored to be working on SWBF3 or SWBF Online.
3. There is no reason for XBOX players to get excited because you don't see an XBOX server. MS handles their own servers.
All that said, this is not an announcement, just speculation. Many of us have been following this game for years and want in more than anything in the world, but until LA announces it, don't get too excited. Hope this info helps, g4 would know this if they knew the source.

I loved Battlefront 2, but I'm going to echo the sentiment that this sequel should have been made about four years ago to capitalize on the success of the franchise. With so many quality games in the current gen, it's going to be hard to recapture the shooter demographic unless it's jaw-dropping.
I, for one, would echo the sentiment of the Feedback crew and ask Lucasarts to crank out some X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter and put it on PSN and XBox Live.

I came up with a (likely implausible) theory as to what is happening with the game and who is developing it.
While Free Radical did indeed shut down, Crytek bought the studio, which has been renamed to Crytek UK.
Electronic Arts owns Bioware, which is currently developing Star Wars: The Old Republic for LucasArts.
Considering Crytek's very close relationship with EA, in addition to LucasArts' previous publishing deals with EA, it is possible that Crytek UK (Free Radical) is still developing Star Wars: Battlefront III.

I love Battlefront just like the next guy but lets be realistic. At this point its just a name, its a completely different developer, a completely new generation of consoles, and games like Uncharted 2 have set such a high standard that I find it near impossible for a reboot to match the quality I expect on their first try.
