Visceral Games might have said they weren’t planning a sequel for their epic action adaptation of Dante’s Inferno, but a new job listing seems to suggest otherwise.
Superannuation picked up the listing for Environment Artist posted over at Gamasutra’s jobs page, and according to job description, the job involves building environments for "the sequel to a major new IP at the award-winning Visceral Games.”
Considering Dead Space 2 is currently well into development, this position is most likely for the Dante’s Inferno sequel that Visceral producer Jonathan Knight previously said there were “no plans” for back when Dante’s hadn’t proven to be a financial and critical hit. Or Visceral could be looking for some late-in-the-game help on Dead Space 2. I’m currently waiting to hear back from EA, so I’ll keep you posted.

@symicide, dude what the hell are you talking about. the amount of detail they put into each circle representing each sin was stunning imo. Yes the detail dropped in the later circles of hell but thats because they were sins of flesh(anger and so on) and not sins against the neighbor(glutton) which are easier to represent. I really hope that they release a sequel and use mount purgatory as its location. In the poem dante gets 5-6(cant remember) P's representing each sin that he commited and he had to repent for them while ascending the mountain. That could easily be translated into the game.

I have both God of War 3 and Dantes Inferno. Dantes Inferno isn't even close to God of War 3 on a technical level. But I enjoyed Dantes Inferno more. The atmosphere totaly capitvated me.

How the hell do you make a sequel to a game that was based off a book written 100s of years ago? Then again, the game wasnt extremely close, im sure they could find a way.

It was a decent game, but they could make a similar game. A sequel just doesn't make sense.

The job posting on Gamasutra contradicts itself
"for an existing action/adventure franchise. This is a major opportunity to contribute to a bold new franchise, heavily backed by the EA Games Label."
"This project is the sequel to a major new IP at the award-winning Visceral Games, creators of Dead Space and Dante s Inferno."
Is it an existing franchise or a major new IP. I don't see how it could be both, and the wording sounds off. I'd bet the job posting is just wrong or something. I hope they don't make Dante's Inferno 2. That's just an insult to literature.

Absolutlely loved this game. It's a gamers game and not for game snobs and critics.
I will pay full price for two more game of the same quality.

there is going to be 2 more dantes infernos, the next one is going to take place in purgatory and the last in heaven unless they combine both in the next installment...most people thought at in the end of the game dante went to heaven but he actually went to purgatory which is in the middle of heaven and hell.........check it out for yourself---->http://en.wiki pedia.org/wiki/Purgatorio

If they are making a sequel, then my brother will be very excited. He really enjoyed the first one.

Actually the second book of the Divine Comedy is titled "Purgatorio." Which does not take place in heaven. It actually takes place in Purgatory. You see; the guy who wrote the original book was a guy named Dante Alighieri, who was a Catholic, and so he set the second book of the series in purgatory. Which (according to the Catholics) is a place where you wait to get into heaven. It is kind of like a "time out" from God. Where you just sit there reflecting on what you've done (years based on how many sins you have committed). The third book, which is called Paradisio is set in Heaven. It will be very interesting to see, them do one on either of the last too (Who knows they may just skip purgatory altogether. But I am sure after twisting around the story again they will find a way to do so.

Symicide is a moron. This game stunned, STUNNED me. Most underrated game of the year by far. I've played every GOW game except the latest. For me, this game has a better theme, better bad guys, better game play, better LEVELS, better WEAPONS, it's just flat out BETTER than GOW to me. Again, to be fair, I havn't played the latest entry but for me at this moment, Dante is king.
Give Dante a fair chance and don't be a GOW snob. Be fair and balanced, like FOX news....psssshhh hahaha.

This time there will be a battle in heaven, I just hope dante is not naked during the game b/c that would be weird.

I liked the ORIGINAL story of Dante's Inferno, you know the one on paper. This was a disgrace to it. Even though it's just another hack'n'slash this could of been way more gripping. Plus the artwork is so, so, so, I don't even know. Just more big, clunky, oversized wrestler size things. Where's the beauty anymore. Way to much fantasy, not nearly enough realism. It's just that so many of these games, the characters and enemies are so generic in appearance.
