Deadly Premonition Review: Strange And Uncompromising

Deadly Premonition

I've made no secret of my love for wacked out 360 horror title Deadly Premonition, but it's such a polarizing game, I was a little afraid that reviewer Matt Keil would take a look at it and react like "I don't even know what this is!" before giving it a one-star review.

My fears were unfounded. Here's part of Matt's rave:

"Deadly Premonition is that rare game that makes you question just about everything you think you know about what makes a game good. At first glance, it looks like a ridiculously sub-par D-list horror title, and, to a degree, it is. But Deadly Premonition is so joyously strange and uncompromising in its vision of what it wants to be that it transcends the clunky controls and pedestrian combat and becomes something almost elegant."

If you love movies like The Princess Bride, Monty Python movies, and Mel Brooks movies; and also like (or love) survival horror games, you will LOVE Deadly Premonition. Even if you don't, try it anyway. It's only $20 new anyway. (ask for it at the counter, it's not always on the shelf.) As long as you understand that it is a comedy, you will probably enjoy yourself. 'Cause whether you like it or not this will go down as a very important game. Though not in the traditional way. This is a landmark discovery of how to take insufficient funds and resources, and put just the right pieces together in just the right way with just the right humorous spin, and make an awesome game that overreaches the sum of its parts. p.s. The story works better and makes more sense than Heavy Rain, anyway. No offence, I'm not commenting on how good a game HR is, I just don't like plot twists that contradict/change what happened in the rest of the story.

this review is a joke and the people at g4 should be embarrased. how the hell does ign give a game a 2 and g4 gives it a 4. you people noted that the controls, and graphics were both terrible. if call of duty came out with bad controls and terrible graphics i bet my life you wouldn't be reccomending it. it seem that the reviewer was pressured by everyone on staff to give the game a good review, since abbie heppie, not the reviewer, went on xplay and explained the review. if the game really were good you wouldn't need a second explination. this is why g4 is as well respected in the gaming medaia as ign or game informer.

Great game, second best survival horror game I've ever played (not for the horror part though)

I agree with the guy above me, try to get an interview please!

Thank you Stephen Johnson for alerting me of this game on feedback. Your sole actions on Feedback made me say "okay I have to get this game".

It has become one of my all time favorite games.

    SPOILER
Is it possible for you guys to do a talkabout about the ending of the game storywise? You know with Zack and every cop being dead at the end and about Forest Kaysen.

It would be cool if you could do that with Abbie and Patrick or whoever.

Would it be possible to get The Feed to do an interview with SWERY? I would be interested to know what he thinks of the cult popularity of his game, was what we in the West find charming planned or just a merry coincidence? Basically just a general questioning of "What the hell man?"
