Kart racing fans haven't seen much in the way of proper HD racing fun this generation. Most gamers have gotten their jollies with Mario Kart Wii, which is fun, but doesn't highlight the awesomeness of your display. Enter United Front's ModNation Racers, the second game in Sony's "Play, Create, Share" strategy. This racer lets you create your own vinyl toy-inspired character and take it out on tracks that either you or other users can lay out. Jake Gaskill raced, chucked missiles, and made a totally sweet character on his way to the
finish line, er, deadline. He really liked the integration of menus into visual information:
"Most of the game lives online, and thankfully, every online feature is seamlessly integrated into the experience, and can be accessed at any time from the ModSpot. Character mods, tracks, karts, and best laps of the day all appear as giant kiosks that you drive up to to open. Like that Spider-Man mod that’s on display? Just set it up to download, and boom, it’s yours. Want someone’s pimped-out rocket car with Tesla coil engine? One click and it’s yours too."
I'm ready to make a racer that reflects me. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how to combine a game controller, turntables, and a soccer ball onto its face. If you're interested in making some wacky racers, read Jake's review to learn more about ModNation Racers!
