Portal Designer Kim Swift Leaves Valve, Joins Dark Void Developer

Oh, Valve. In celebration of launching their digital distribution service for games, Steam, on the Mac platform, Valve's offering their much-lauded Portal for free on PC and Mac until May 24.

"Portal used to cost money," reads a hilarious message on Valve's website. "Until May 24th, it's free. End of story. Well, technically speaking, there are some strings attached. Fortunately, they're entirely decorative. We just like the way they look, swaying in the gentle breeze created by a million people simultanously fainting from shock at the news that Portal is free."

Valve quickly gets to the point, a message most people who have played Portal can agree with.

"Now you have no reason not to try Portal."

With the secretive Portal 2 likely to make an appearance next month at E3 in Los Angeles, there's no reason to avoid Portal any longer. Seriously. It's free. How can you go wrong with free? Get on it, man!

Bioware is really, really, really great, but no Valve. They're on their way, if they can play catchup.

I have no reason not to try Portal on Steam? What about the fact that I'm a Linux bigot, and Steam still doesn't support Linux?

Portal wasn't bad in the Orange Box on the PS3, but I actually preferred Portal: The Flash Version (http://portal.wecreatestuff.c om/). At least the flash version runs on Linux. :)

Portal was such a great game, it was the main reason I bought the Orange Box everything else was just a great added bonus.
