Final Fantasy IX Hitting PlayStation Network

You'll have a newfound chance to revisit Final Fantasy IX soon. Square Enix dropped word on the PlayStation Blog that Final Fantasy IX is coming to the PlayStation Network in the near future.

It wasn't hard to get a serious kick out of Final Fantasy IX, given how much fan service it paid to the previous Final Fantasy games. It was easily my least favorite of the PlayStation-era sequels, but there are likely legions of Final Fantasy IX defenders on G4tv.com about to yell at me in the comments.

No release date for Final Fantasy IX's digital debut was announced, but it doesn't sound far off.

    They should touch up and rerelease all of them. Let us buy just the ones we want or give us a bundle with them all. I have them on disk...but since PS3 isn't backwards compatible with PS2, I'd buy 'em again. It would be nice if they'd polish the graphics a bit though. Nothing really rash, just a little smoothing of the edges and some sparkle so it looks better on the HD.

    Where the hell's my FFVI remake already? If they can skip VII & VIII for PSN ports than they can skip V for a DS remake!

    Haha, I remember making Quina and Vivi get married. It was hilariously awkward.

    I don't know why but I'm really excited about this being on PSN. I already own a hard copy of the game so I don't really plan on buying it... <_<</safety_wrapper&g t;

    Still need to finish this. Went on an eBay spree and bought all the Final Fantasys I didn't have, so this means little to me.

    I really enjoyed this game because it had more of a high fantasy feel that reminded me of the first three American release titles. Plus, I like "cute," colorful games and character models. That's why I'm looking forward to 3D Dot Game Heroes. Of course I also want to devour Alan Wake so it should be clear that I think it's good to have a diverse gaming library as well.

    I really dug this game when it was first released. It reminded me so much of FFII & FFIII which were my absolute favorites of the series. I never got into the other versions much at all and was quite disappointed with FFVII. Props to you if you like the newer FF games but my heart is with the older play styles.

    can't wait for this game to drop on psn. one of the first ff's i actually played in entirety. it really brought out the FANTASTY in FF but i can see how some wouldn't like it. personally, it was the first RPG whose story I actually cared about and realized the potential video games had as a visual medium to evoke emotions and feelings in the real world. ye ye, I know all the fellow nerdlits out there cried when whats her face went down in ffVII but unfort. I missed that train and just fell in love with ffix instead and never looked back. RPGer for life!

    "Soon" registered trademark of Blizzard Enter... wait, this is Square-Enix we're talking about? Oh, well, that makes sense too.

    I do have to agree that this one does take a special place in FF for me, I dug it when I was starting to think that the PS era would be my downfall (VIII made me want to punch babies, Squall is the worse emo case I've seen in a FF), VI is still my favorite though. ;p

    If not for Final Fantasy 6(Final Fantasy 3 in this country), FF IX would definitely be my all time favorite. Black Mage 4 Life!

    Yes, I am one of those Final Fantasy IX fans who will yell at you in the comments. Not for real, you like what you like. It's cool. But man, I loved FF IX. Besides FF VII and FF XII, it is easily my most favorite FF game.

    I can understand why you wouldn't like it. It is a little bit weird at first glance, but I thought that the story was well delivered and thankfully not so full of angst--or the angst that it did have wasn't so pointless like Squall was in FFVIII. I think it's one of the best FFs made. The characters--most of them--are lovable--how can you NOT like Zidane--and actually relateable this time around where as in some of the other FFs it felt more like just watching stuff happen instead of feeling like you were interacting with it. To me, the game is a huge success. Although, I'm not going to re-buy it on PSN when I have my original still in working order.

    FFIX was actually the only PS1 FF I've ever played far into, it was my cousin's. Back then I was a Nintendo 64 junkie so i never really got into those games. I think I probably enjoyed the soundtrack more than the actual game itself, (seriously I rank it as Uematsu's third best soundtrack, after VII and VI in that order).
