Remember that contest that 2K announced back in January that said the first person to pitch a perfect game in Major League Baseball 2K10 would win a $1,000,000? Well, guess what? I won! Actually, that’s a lie, but someone did manage to pull it off.
24-year old Wade McGilberry of Semmes, Alabama pitched the perfect game on the very first day of the contest – March 2 – but he had to wait until the contest ended on May 2 before 2K and video game records authority Twin Galaxies could verify it.
"It was actually my wife who convinced me to go for it. I never thought I'd actually win a million dollars playing a video game, it's all still sinking in for me,” McGilberry explained in a statement. "The game itself was fantastic - I'm glad I bought it either way - but I have to say, this is a nice return on my investment.”
2K is probably a little bummed at having to part with a cool $1 million, but as 2K Sports vice president of marketing Jason Argent explains, the reaction it solicited was well worth it.
“This competition was an amazing ride for us. We honestly had no idea what to expect. But the incredible response from the fans and the buzz surrounding the competition was nothing that we could have ever predicted.”
Really? You couldn’t predicted that people would flock like mad birds to a contest giving them the chance to win $1 million for playing a video game? That’s one of the most buzz-worthy scenarios I have ever heard. But that’s beside the point. Congratulations, Mr. McGilberry!
Any readers attempt the perfect game challenge?

Damn to do it on the first day just make it sound like this challenge wasn't as hard as 2K thought it would be. I wonder if they regret it.

This is beyond geeky, but I'm interested in who his pitcher was and who he pitched it against in the game.

@lowkev...yeah..in the show it makes a major difference..I play on Legend and you make one mistake like hanging a curve or missing an inside change-up and the AI punishes you for it...definetely worth picking up if you want a really true diamond experience.
wh0urdady
He was the first to complete the task, it was against the mets playing with a braves pitcher i think. He was actually practicing using the demo before the game was released.
TKEmysterio
Did they release any kind of count on how many people actually pitched perfect games? Was he the first? Was that why he won? Or was he the only one to do it?
unfungames
He looks like he should be hanging out in middle earth
Okonoko
I was hoping Kenny Powers would have won this. Dude needs the scratch.

Does the difficulty setting make any difference to how responsive the AI is to the pitching?? I never played anything from the MLB series, but in most sports games, the setting from Rookie to All-Star makes a really big difference in the gameplay and how the computer AI responds to what you do.

Wow did it on the first day?? Didn't even need practice apparently
gambit1023
congrats to him but still....even the chance to win a million dollars in no way persuaded me to buy 2K10 or The Show.

I wonder if people can return their copies of MLB since 2KGames chose not to announce that the contest they were using to sell games was over before the games were purchased. It'd be an interesting case in any event.
