We don't typically cover "gone gold" announcements on G4tv.com, but when it's a game that's been as oft-delayed as Obsidian Entertainment's Alpha Protocol, there's reason to take notice.
"Gone gold" means development has ceased and the game is off to mass production.
Alpha Protocol was originally scheduled to be released last fall. Sega wouldn't acknowledge strong rumors the game was being pushed into the spring or summer of 2011 until the release date actually came and went without mention of what was actually going on with the spy-action game.
The game seems to be finally entering the home stretch, however. Look for it on June 1.

It's great to hear that AP has gone Gold. Given that this *is* Obsidian however, with thier track record of releasing games that were incomplete, I do feel *some* trepidation. One can hope that they learned thier lesson with KOTOR2 and NWN2, but in today's gaming industry that's asking for alot. Still, I am really excited for this game as the setting, story, and characters all look to be on-par with Mass Effect 2. Let's hope Obsidian's position as BioWare's kid sister can be elevated some.

Well I enjoyed Obsidian's Neverwinter Nights 2 and Knights of the old Republic 2 a lot... so I'll be giving this game a shot at release.... it also seems to mimic Mass Effect 2 in some of the gameplay aspects, so that to me is also a plus.

took me off guard cause i've been waiting for it and hadn't seen it! i was like omg it came out went gold and i never knew! hahaha

well, I am going to wait on this game, I don't know if it will be any good, if it is, great, if not, oh well.
