Sony today announced a new God of War game for the PSP. God of War: Ghost of Sparta is being developed by Ready at Dawn, the development company behind God of War: Chains of Olympus. It's scheduled for release "Later this year."
"Excitement for the God of War franchise is at an all-time high and we're thrilled to continue that momentum with God of War: Ghost of Sparta," said Scott A. Steinberg, vice president, product marketing, SCEA in a statement. "This new adventure will showcase Kratos on PSP like never before in an experience that fans and newcomers can enjoy on the go, anytime, anywhere."
God of War: Ghost of Sparta is a single-player game that takes place after the first God of War ends. It tells the story of Kratos' ascension to power as the God of War. In his quest to rid himself of the nightmares that haunt him, Kratos embarks on a journey that will reveal the origins of lost worlds, and answer questions about his dark past, including the origin of his tattoo, his scar and the story behind his family. The game will also have a new weapon system, new magical powers, weapons and navigational abilities, many more enemies on screen, and a greater number of boss encounters.
The game is being touted as having 25 percent more gameplay than the previous PSP GOW game. Check out the first few screens in our gallery, right here.
So, what do you think? Are you down for the next installment of GOW on PSP?

I'll give people on here some credit, many on IGN are just whining that they don't have a PSP.

I love GoW but i dont have a PSP so this news was very disappointing for me. I really thought GoW 3 DLC was gonna be announced, but I can let this one slide, I guess...

I figured this is what the teaser site would be for, but it is still awesome to get confirmation. Add in that it is coming later this year makes it a really tasty treat. I just hope the GOWIII DLC is coming soon as well. Getting antsy after completing everything possible for the game.

Great annoucement! Between Peace Walker, Kingdom Hearts, ModNation Racers, and Ghost of Sparta, the PSP is looking to have an extremely solid year in regards to their software lineup. This also doesn't include the future Resident Evil game that's in the works. And to those of you that are disappointed that this wasn't a GOWIII-related announcement, just because the SpartansStandTall site is about the PSP game does not mean that Sony Santa Monica won't be releasing DLC for GOWIII. They said that they would and I'm taking them at their word.

Personally, ever since watching the "birth of a demon" extra in GOW 1, I have always been interested in Kratos's back story. And ever since reading all the notes and dialog in GOW 3 (mentions of the "brother" of Kratos by both a note and Zeus himself saying that Gaia should've chosen the "other one"), I've been wondering if the makers were ever going to create a game based on that information. It's great that it will still be Kratos as the lead, but I wonder if we will see him fight his past or that the makers would create a game dedicated to his brother's side story.

It is definitely hard to try and continue the great streak that the GOW franchise has received, whether it is a new console game or downloadable content. Personally, the news that a new PSP GOW game is coming out just adds to the excitement. Really though, ever since the history behind Kratos's family came into view (both the "birth of a demon" extra in GOW 1 and mentions of Kratos's brother in GOW 3), fans may have been a little more wanting to indulge in Kratos's actual history. One complaint/suggestion: The title should be called "Ghosts of Sparta" rather than just "Ghost of Sparta".

I'm always happy for more God of War, but if this is what the SpartansStandTall site was about I am a little dissapointed. I was really hoping for some DLC.

Having a PSP is more fail than this announcement.
