Mortal Kombat Armageddon

A bunch of info has come out recently about still-a-rumor sequel Mortal Kombat 9. Here's a rundown of evidence to suggest the game is more than just vaporware, and may be close to the reveal stage:

  • Actress Dana Lyn Baron said on a (since removed) blog entry that she plays Sonya in the game. It's also on her IMDB resume.
  • Actress Brenda Barry mentioned that she played a part in the game in an interview in the Post Tribune of Northwest Indiana. She also lists "Kitana" on her IMDB resume.

But the most promising evidence comes from Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon himself.

Mr. Boon has tweeted the following:

“9 + 25 = FALSE”

and

Here are those MK9 beta codes I promised you: TEERH-ONRUS-TNUBT-NO Hope you enjoy the beta! Just kidding...I ain't got shit. ;) 8:42 AM Apr 30th  via web

The first post is cryptic, but seems to suggest the game won't be released on Christmas Day. The second tweet, you can figure out for yourself. If I were a betting man, I'd wager the first proper announcement of the game will be at E3 in June.

How amazing is it that I (and you, probably) still care about this series? How long has it been since a really killer Mortal Kombat title has hit shelves? Really, Mortal Kombat 2. That game was so groundbreaking and awesome, we're still hanging on news of the series, even nearly 20 years (!) later.

I would like to see the older humorous finisher moves brought back like the baby and friendship ones. They always had a weird way of working in the game but I haven't seen them since MK 2. I'm really hoping Midway can step it up for the next MK game because street fighter is taking the ball and just recently scored a touchdown.(SSFIV is an excellent game)

I was liking the open world stories being in there on top of the standard ladder modes along with the tons and tons of extras...

I sucked very much at the actual fights...but the story mode really takes your hand and brings you through the movesets and all that....very enjoyable..

of course one of the issues there were having some characters from the older games as NPC's with a lot less polish than the "real" characters....

another issue being that a lot of the best characters from the first games have either been given the boot or completely revamped for the worse..

    I'm sorry...but SubZero 2 sucks...

This is a series that would excel in exploiting their retro fanbase. C'mon, bring back the mo-cap! lol

I have bought every MK game and have played MK since the arcade days. (Ah, the many quarters I had wasted on MK1 and MK2. Good times...)

I personally don't think there has been a good MK game since MK: Deception. I felt that Konquest was a lot of fun and the Fatalities were excellent.

Armageddon and "... Vs. DC" were, (imo) disappointments. Specifically, Konquest in Armageddon was too short and the Kreate-A-Fighter didn't live up to the hype. "... Vs. DC" was way too tame and lacked the twisted humor or previous MK titles. This made it way too boring for me.

That being said, I am still looking forward to a new MK title. I continue to be optimistic that Boone and Co. will create an MK title that will rival the quality, gore and twisted humor of MK2 and Deception.

    Call me crazy...

But I was a huge fan of Shaolin Monks. I've been secretly longing for another one to be made. Games like Ninja Gaiden, Devil May Cry, and God of War show that this style of game play is still popular among us gamers. There's a rich mythology (and I use that term LOOSELY!) behind the Mortal Kombat universe. Why not reinvigorate the franchise by really fleshing out the back stories of some more of our favorite fighting game characters?

The technology is here. The story is rich. The game play can be great. But please OH PLEASE keep it cooperative!

I enjoyed MK: Armageddon. It controlled well, it was over the top, a good konquest mode and everything. I still hold MK II as my favourite. Anything after that became way too combo heavy. I shouldn't have to memorize long button combos in an MK game. I did like the cast of III though. Very memorable.

Anywho, I have a feeling they will be doing a retro, DLC MK. Photo graphics and whatnot. Just look at what NBA Jam is doing

Street Fighter 4 really reinvigorated the side-by-side fighting games. I personally felt like it was a dying breed before that game came along. Now other games are following it's example, making it a "3D" side-by-side fighting game, with complex and subtle details for those that look for them, and simultaneously making it open enough for people who simply want to mash their opponent (or their controller buttons) into submission.

I'm excited for this Mortal Kombat game because this is the first MK game we've seen SINCE the release of SF4, and if they're following the trend of similar games (Marvel vs Capcom 3 anyone?) this may very well be the MK game we've been waiting for.

Mortal Kombat Trilogy was better than Mortal Kombat 2 I thought and definitely was their last good MK. I find it hard to believe that they will make MK9 any good. I've lost my faith in them. I'll probably try it, but I'll stick with SSFIV.

i think im the only one that loved Mortal Kombat Armageddon for me that game was awesome, the create a fighter was great, the mortal kombat/ mario kart minigame was good and the konguest mode was really intriguing.

MK II hands down the best. The one that came out deception I think was actually really good. If they are going to make a new mortal kombat they need to really rethink the way it will be executed. Right now mortal kombat is not as respected as SF or GG or even KOF.

I am glad they are not fighting some stupid marvel or DC characters, b/c super heros to me are so dumb and boring I just get turned off by the idea. . .. .I know a man who dresses up as a bat with his little boy "side kick" was cool in 1940 but its stale and ridiculous now.
