There will be another Call of Duty game released later this year, the Treyarch-developed Call of Duty: Black Ops. As Activision sorts out the future of the Modern Warfare section of the franchise, the Call of Duty franchise moves forward from another developer. But reader Severnik wonders if it's too much, too fast. Is Activision going to burn this out like Guitar Hero?
"Activision seems to lie saturating markets. First Guitar Hero, now COD. I would be happy with one COD game every two years. Would ensure quality from the studio and would open their developers to flex their creative muscle and make new IPs."
Of course, we haven't actually seen Call of Duty: Black Ops yet. Maybe that will change minds.

unlike the previous two COD games where I get it at midnight, I'll wait a week or two to see how the campaign is and online play. But MOH will be out and so will Reach in the fall so i might never get too it

well, Black Ops is from Treyarch, not IW. Treyarch hasn't made a game since World at War which was two years ago, so yeah its four Call of Duty's, four years in a row but its a different developer every year, so they are actually on 2 yr production schedules. Next year will probably be the Sledgehammer game. Then, who knows, maybe Bungie will take over the Modern Warfare series.

The game we like IS every two years. Its MW from Infinity Ward which just happens to be part of the Call of Duty Franchise. so no this is not like Guitar Hero.
something funny:there were six guitar hero games last year. Metallica, smash hits, 5, band hero, van halen and dj hero.

Whatever they do, they need to think about some serious beta time to release a decent online experience for all.

We have only ourselves to blame. They wouldn't keep putting out games, if we the gamers didn't go and buy it like lemmings. They only thing that is going to stop them from milking our beloved franchises to death is if we flex our wallets. We the gamers, however, will probably still buy a yearly COD to what amounts to a glorified expansion pack. So why would Activision stop pump them out.

I do believe that Activision should try to scale back this yearly release schedule. It not only leads to the inevitable over-saturation of the market (as seen with Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero), it also undermines their DLC market. By pushing a new title into the market while there is still demand for the online structure of their last title, they're missing out on opportunities to make some serious bank in map packs and additional game modes.

World at War has more bang for your buck giving you co-op campaign, multi-player online, and nazi-zombies. MW2 was good but I've been bored with it for a while. I'm looking forward to Treyarch doing the new one "Its all about Killing Nazis!!!!"

now do a reacharound of a reacharound. double reacharound.

I've said before, actually twice already today. Treyarch is the Neversoft: FPS. Thumbs me down if you want. It's true.

I've been a long time COD fan(as I've stated before) but the franchise is falling apart. Its become stale, way to repeatative, over the top and noob friendly. I'm looking forward to Black Ops because Treyarch's last installment got me out of the "lets hate Treyarch because they aren't IW" bandwagon. Treyarch has improved with each game. I really enjoyed W@W because they gave us 4 player co-op, mp, nazi zombies and a far better campaign than MW2 offered. I said it earlier today Black Ops will be my last COD if I even decide to pick it up.
Oh and Activision milked Tony Hawk to death way before it killed Guitar Hero and now COD.

Yes MW 2 was a fail because unlike what 402 said they did not listen, and still don't listen to the community at all.
Also MW 2 was rushed too much.

There are TWO developers. They each get two years to develop the game. So I personally think there is nothing wrong with getting a new Call of Duty each year.
Besides, almost everyone agrees that MW2 was a disappointing sequel with unbalanced multiplayer.
Who knows? Treyarch might just be the ones to save the series from going downhill. I say this for EVERY single fan. Whether you like Treyarch or not, I think they should at least be given the chance to try to "save" the franchise. If they fail at giving a good game, then yes, Call of Duty is over with. If they succeed, then Call of Duty still has a chance to be a good series in the future.
BTW if you're so worried about this game, GO TO THE WAW forums! Treyarch is asking the fans what WE would like to see changed from WaW and MW2. You'd be surprised on how much Treyarch listens to the fans!

activision needs to cut this out and with halo reach and star craft two the online community will not be yearning for another cod it feels like the last one JUST came out

I doubt seriously that I'll get this one. Hell, the only reason I got MW2 was because I wanted something to play online with friends, but we`re all sick off it (some haven`t even touched the game since Christmas.)
DreamingDarklyRobin
Well, don't they get two years, at least a year and a half? I mean it alternated between Treyarch and Infinity Ward.
Besides Valve churned out L4D 2 in less than a year and that was pretty good, albeit not much improved over the first as some would hope.
I'd agree with Guitar Hero though.

I grew tired of Call of Duty after CoD4. I used to be a big CoD fan, loved CoD3 and worshiped CoD4 like everyone else with it being my priority game for half a year. However when I finally burnt it out, the sequels like WaW and MW2 felt like the same exact game I had already been playing for the last 3 years and grew tired of.
I am not much more interested in a game if it offers brand new gameplay that completely changes the way you play like MAG with its 256 massive wars, or Bad Company 2 with its destruction and epic vehicle support.
