Lifting the veil for the first time on director Kenneth Branagh's mysterious project, Marvel has today released the first image of Chris Hemsworth in full outfit as the mighty Thor!
It's a fairly conventional representation of the modern comic version of Thor with covered arms, darker top, etc. However, he's hardly the over-sized muscle-bound, flowing blonde-haired character that looks like he walked off the cover a 70's era rock album. He's clearly an average-sized, rather normal-looking person. It's overall, a solid-looking character, but I'm not sure there's enough here to make an objective judgment on how it will work in the film.

With the rather normal image of the Thor form considered, it does leave you to wonder how the film will handle the whole aspect of the Asgardian Thunder God's essence being trapped inside his Earth alter-ego, Donald Blake. It has been confirmed for a while that the film is loaded with stars such as Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Stellan Skarsgård, and Tom Hiddleston. Yet, still no one announced for the crucial role of Blake. While it has been strongly asserted last year that this aspect would not be featured in the film, it still seems possible that, given Thor's unassuming, "normal" appearance, that he could adopt some sort of "secret identity" scam once on Earth, possibly with the name Donald Blake as a comic tribute.

What are your thoughts on this rendition of Thor? Does it meet expectations?

He's not shirtless.
I hate it.

I hate how clean he is... in real life he'd be filthy!

Uhh . . . he looks like an action figure? Why?

I was expecting something more along the lines of Ultimate Thor in appearance.

The image doesn't look bad, but I am still of the opinion that casting anyone besides Triple H for the role of Thor is a mistake. If you look at him, he would barely need any changes to his physical appearance to be ready. He simply is a dead ringer for the conventional image of Thor.

I was hopping for a more traditional fur, chain mail, leather bands, helmet look
in this vein...

Naturally with touches from the classic outfits from the marvel thor...and some modern touches throughout...
Still a straight up translation of the current costume is good....though as mentioned...it's a bit too rubbery and not very convincing....a problem a lot of superhero movies have faced over the years....
that being said it certainly looks like it'd fit in with the current marvel "movie" universe...especially with the black widow costume....
however while the thor costume doesn't look too bad....I think that it does not bode well for the Captain America costume....
Seems to be sticking in the strictly - "Look we all know it's a movie and we're just going to have fun with it" route..
Which isn't necessarily bad....however this trend is the exact reason why spiderman 1 isn't that entertaining to watch again....and while it's in check for now...could easily end up going full on camp with cap nipples...
:P

No offense to Thor fans but I'm actually more interested in how the Deadpool movie is doing.
One pic of Ryan Reynolds in Deadpools costume would send my heart a flutter.

im very interested in seeing how they do this movie. all the superhero movies now a days have to be more realistic in order to succeed (just look at the ang lee hulk movie). it will be interesting to see how they do a movie where the main character is a god, and try to make it realistic.

the suit looks a little... plastic

My hopes are higher for the Thor movie than either Iron man 2 or the Captain America just because Kenneth Brannagh is directing and should be a good fit with his Shakespeare stuff for gravitas. Though i don't read Thor or the other comics any more what i remember from my childhood is that Thor had that feeling of Richard III or Henry V behind it.
Favreau's original iron Man was a bit by the numbers even though it was enjoyable and you would have to go back to Rocketter to find a Joe Johnston movie i enjoyed. As for Whedon directing the Avengers movie I'll reserve judgement to find out which character he will inevitably misscast Eliza Dushku for.

I like that they made him look like Thor Reborn. I was afraid this would suck cause of who was playing him, but I think he'll nail it.

Will this be true to the Norse myths?

so is this an image from the Thor movie or is it an image from Iron Man 2. I hear there is a scene after the credits similar to the original iron man movie. one can only guess that it involves Thor since they haven't had time to get chris evans suited up for cap. I doubt it involves the hulk because of all that drama between norton and marvel.

It seems pretty cool actually,
