PlayStation 3

If you haven't heard, Activision and Bungie are working together. As part of the new deal, Bungie said it's expanding into mulit-platform development. So far, the studio hasn't named which platforms it's looking at, but given the company's tech-happy games, PlayStation 3 seems very likely.

Obviously, this news makes Sony very happy. The company was quick to issue a statement to me this morning about the Bungie and Activision news, praising the deal as "great for all gamers."

Read the full statement below.

"This is great news for all gamers," said Sony's senior director of communications and social media Patrick Seybold in an e-mailed statement. "When Bungie's amazing talent and creative minds are unleashed and married with the incredible power of PlayStation 3, amazing things will happen. Ultimately, as a gamer, if you want the best content available from the industry's most renowned developers, today's announcement further signifies that PlayStation 3 will be the only place to get it. With last years amazing and award winning PS3 titles, to the roadmap and surprises we have for this year, the momentum for PS3 and PSN continues. I think I speak for everyone, when I say I can't wait to learn about this new IP and world that Bungie is creating."

Now, the wait begins to find out what Bungie is actually up to.

Background: Check out the original Bungie partnership story. Bungie, Microsoft and Sony have all issued statements. And here's our in-depth interview with Bungie as well.

I love how Sony's talking like Bungie's working on a PS3 exclusive. It sounds more like they're going multi-platform, so the "best content available" will be available elsewhere, too. They really need to get their big heads out of their asses for a moment and realize they're not the center of everyone's attention.

Bungie created Halo but the Halo franchise is owned and published by Microsoft Game Studios.343 Industries(a studio created and owned by Microsoft)is the future developer for the Halo franchise. So yeah Halo is gonna stay with MS forever.

I bet the multi-platform game will be a motion control casual market game. ;) Maybe something like Muscle March but with more steroids (even large muscles) as Sony says...or maybe a Bungie jump simulator?

    :)

As long as they get to work on their own IP during this time then yes, it is good for all gamers. Should be interesting though seeing what they can do now that they're not handcuffed by Halo (because face it, that series was going to end, best that it is on Bungie's terms).

Love the statement Sony made another blow to Microsoft. Microsoft is giving Halo to a new company they started. I know the games are multiplatform but this makes the PlayStation look better and Microsoft might just need to buy a gaming studio that's useful because they haven't own Bungie since 2007. Next is Epic Games.

I have a ps3 and xbox 360 so this news does nothing for me. And all the fanboys on here are annoying. Everytime anything happens they think its some kind of sign that one system is better than the other. Why people would limit themeselves arbitrarily is beyond me. All your doing is limiting your gaming experience by choosing one console and shunning the other. There is no real reason to pick one over the other when you get nothing in return for loyalty. So just grow up. A good game is a good game regardless of what system its on. Bungie branching out to more consoles is great for everyone. Their sales go up , their budgets go up and they make more and better games for everyone. Its a win win for gamers.

I just want to thanks Bungie and Activision for causing another pointless fanboy war. This is a pretty neat deal and just hope that what they make are for both consoles. I have both so doesn't really matter, but when your trying to appeal to a greater audience (as far as companies who make games like halo and CoD) you tend to do a pretty damn good job with it. If it comes out a shooter I have no doubt I will buy it for 360 though. Personally I like shooters on the 360. (I have MW2 for PS3 and it bothers me quite a lot.)

The way I see it, Bungie is a one-trick pony and Activision looks to be an organization that is all about the money; always keeping their talent between a rock and a hard place. I am a PS3 fanboy but I do not see much coming from this announcement. Halo on PS3 would just be ludicrous and at this point in time, anyone who wants to play Halo already has an Xbox 360 so the market is already depleted for that particular title. From there, all we can do is hope that Bungie has more up its sleeve. As far as Activision goes, yeah good luck with that, Bungie.

This is where its get really funny. When you read the comments of the Bungie/Activision story first breaking, all the comments were saying how this is a horrible idea, and how Activision is going to screw Bungie. As soon as Sony says its a good idea, leave it to the fanboys to all say how awesome this deal is now going to be!! What I doubt anyone is noticing is that the fans are the only ones who keep this console war going. What the gaming industry is working on is way to intergrate gaming so no fan feels left out!!

It would be great for all gamers if Activision wasn't involved so basicly it isn't good for any gamers.

LMAO. The Sony fanboys actually think Halo will end up on the PS3. That is hilarious. Sorry but MS owns the rights to Halo. Looks like your stuck with crappy shooters like MAG.

thats good news for them, multi platform means more money and more money means better games. By all means, congrats, just too bad you pick Activision.

I find it funny how fanboys who previously chided Bungie or the Halo franchise are now enthusiastic over the notion they will get to play one of its intellectual properties; it's inconsistent to say the least.

I entirely agree with Sony on this; it is great for all gamers whenever developers are able to move beyond the shackles of console exclusivity and give as many of us out there the opportunity to enjoy what they have developed. (Of course Sony is more delighted about the possibility that Bungie will release a game on the PS3, but I think you get the picture.) SquareEnix did it with FFXIII, Hideo Kojima will do it with MGS: Rising, now Bungie is next in line. It's not too great that geniuses in the industry create stellar games yet only are able to offer it to a select part of the audience because honestly, I don't think they care as much whether their game sides you in either camp of the console war as much as they just want you to experience and enjoy their product.

I liken it to art (which games are, anyway) as there was a point in time where art was only considered for the rich and powerful. However, art isn't exclusive to any one category of people. Art should be available to everyone and so should games. And while IMO I don't see Halo coming to the PS3 (I personally think a new IP will be developed) I'm excited over the notion of Bungie reaching more gamers, especially with the power of PS3 hardware.

For you guys that say halo will be on PS3, i highly doubt it, Halo Reach is the last one bungie is developing of halo (so they say) and after that, they might be giving it to MICROSOFTS 343 studios, which makes me sad, i hope they dont start cranking out halo games like activision does with CoD games. And my 2 cents is I bet they will make for 360 and port to PS3 for future games, cause I would think they can develop much better on xbox at this point.

Side note: I would always buy my halo for the xbox anyway :), and i will always buy my god of wars for the PS3

Personally I don't care who is with who, who bought who, and what games are on what console. It doesn't matter if its on PS3, XBOX 360, Wii, or all three, as long as they are games worth playing.

Yeah Bungie do someone else a favor for once and fine tune those PS FPS controls for good.
