PlayStation 3

If you haven't heard, Activision and Bungie are working together. As part of the new deal, Bungie said it's expanding into mulit-platform development. So far, the studio hasn't named which platforms it's looking at, but given the company's tech-happy games, PlayStation 3 seems very likely.

Obviously, this news makes Sony very happy. The company was quick to issue a statement to me this morning about the Bungie and Activision news, praising the deal as "great for all gamers."

Read the full statement below.

"This is great news for all gamers," said Sony's senior director of communications and social media Patrick Seybold in an e-mailed statement. "When Bungie's amazing talent and creative minds are unleashed and married with the incredible power of PlayStation 3, amazing things will happen. Ultimately, as a gamer, if you want the best content available from the industry's most renowned developers, today's announcement further signifies that PlayStation 3 will be the only place to get it. With last years amazing and award winning PS3 titles, to the roadmap and surprises we have for this year, the momentum for PS3 and PSN continues. I think I speak for everyone, when I say I can't wait to learn about this new IP and world that Bungie is creating."

Now, the wait begins to find out what Bungie is actually up to.

Background: Check out the original Bungie partnership story. Bungie, Microsoft and Sony have all issued statements. And here's our in-depth interview with Bungie as well.

No (already existing) Halo game will ever make it's way to the PS3/Wii.
343 Industries will be holding the Halo Torch after Halo: Reach is released; and they're owned by Microsoft.
    Keep on dreaming, PS3/Wii-exclusive owners.
    ----------
[Entertaining the idea of other platforms receiving ANY Halo game...]

And even if ownership over Halo is disregarded, the only Halo game I could ever imagine going to the PS3 is Halo Wars. LoL Why? 'Cause the PS3 & RTS's just seem to go together like that.
If they made a game where Arbiter is the main character, and the game is more of a Hack & Slash than a shooter, then MAYBE (since the PS3 likens to Hack & Slashers over Shooters), but even THEN its iffy.
As for the Wii...they MIGHT get Halo 1 (considering the graphics of that game), but thats all they'll get.

Honestly,I really do not care for Micro Soft because they will buy any video game franchise from Japan
and try to make that video game exclusive to their console which I find wrong,it should be up to the people who make that video that wants their video game o n all 4 platforms. If Halo does come out on to the Play Station ,I might buy it.Well it is a wait and see if it is real or not.

The early sounds of the xbox further sinking away. Can't hold on to the only franchises they have.

you're speaking too soon, Sony. Activision already hates you. they're just gunna keep making the Xbox version superior and eventually only make Xbox exclusive games.

Hopefully, this moves us one step closer to ending this exclusivity BS. I can't stand it when any platform does it.

I swear, if God of War 3 or Uncharted doesn't come out for xbox (i mean why not? Bungie's doing it so PS3 companies better do multi platform) i will back hand kevin periera

I think Bungie is the best on Microsoft's Xbox360
    But PS3 would not trade
    Naughty Dog
    Guerilla
    Zipper
    For them

The one thing I think Bungie did do better was the online features outside of gameplay, all the stats, lobbies, split screen online, invites and stuff.
Gameplay is fun on Halo's but nothing a lot of other companies are not doing, on par with COD's, KZ2', etc.

It's funny that Sony should be praising multi platform titles when they are the worst offenders when it comes to platform exclusive IPs. They seem to feel that their hardware is not the main selling point of their system and it should be up to exclusive content to sell units.

Xbox, despite it's lack of quality hardware, still seems to remain on top in terms of platform proliferation and maintaining a large base even for a few months after launch. Somehow they can do this without requiring heavy exclusive content. Methinks that their services are what brings the kids to the yard and not their attempt to lock devs and producers out of any consumer demographics.

I have always detested Sony's attempt at controlling markets through hardware and exclusivity. They have a long and sordid history with it (Blu Ray/HDDVD notwithstanding) and I would be happy to see them given a continued spanking in sales because of their greedy behavior.

PS: I still hold a major grudge for their damned ATRAC audio format during the days of Diskmans.

u r all dumb, one microsoft owns halo, they can make a game almost identical, but risk a law suit but we will have to see, and bungie prob wont make games for Wii, cause they r not dumb, Nintendo makes the only good wii games, they should give Bungie a futuristic Call Of Duty, esp cause they fired the IW heads and half the company told activision to suck it and then they joined Respawn, its gunna be interesting to see wat Bungie does with Activision, wat Activision does with CoD and wat Respawn does. and ps. i am not to much of a fanboy i just dnt like 360 Controllers or paying for LIVE, but all games should be on the 360 and PS3, like Uncharted 2 and God of War 3 and Killzone 2 should be on 360 and PS3 and Halo, Gears of War and Splinter Cell on PS3 and 360, i want a super console (leave out motion control and Nitendo can join too), we could have 360 and PS3 type controllers, and i mean think about it, Mario, Zelda, Halo, Gears, CoD, Killzone, Uncharted, ext... all on one system. Thatll never happen, its all about money, so expect the Middle East to draw up a peace treaty first.

I like my PS3. Bungie games on PS3 would be great. But gotta say Sony's narcissistic self praising attitude occasionally makes me sick. I'm one of those "chill" PC gamers who thinks he's better than the petty console gamers though... so I guess it takes one to know one lol.

Kind of funny how people are all excited about this, yet were bashing Activision merely weeks ago with the whole Infinity Ward debacle.

    Oh, you kids...

Hopefully this doesn't screw Bungie in the long run.

Just reading the statement, the only thing I did like reading was "This is great news for all gamers," after that it was just one man blowing his ego around as if Bungies new IP was going PS3 exclusive. " today's announcement further signifies that PlayStation 3 will be the only place to get it." Yaaaaa...

For all fanboys, Halo IP is owned by Microsoft too and for that I don't think they'll allow their exclusive to go multiplatform since that would cost them money. (If you want to play Halo you have to pay for Microsofts Xbox.) So don't get any hopes started thinking that there will be a Halo on PS3 or Wii or whatever.

And to that, Bungie is only making a new IP with Activision to go multiplatform so again no Halo is being mentioned here.

Now I am excited to see what they can bring out with the new IP, still worries me that their with Activision but here's hoping they know what their putting themselves in with IW and all.

Bungie created Halo but the Halo franchise is owned and published by Microsoft Game Studios.343 Industries(a studio created and owned by Microsoft)is the future developer for the Halo franchise. So yeah Halo is gonna stay with MS forever.
